I'm currently trying to sell my Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS for Canon. It is currently listed for $600 used with a UV filter. Yesterday Amazon was selling it new for $680 on Amazon, now today all of the sellers have it listed for $594 new. Anyone have a reason as to why it dropped so much?
I am not trying to do that. I'm just confused, and thought maybe someone who know why the lens dropped overnight in price by $100. If I want to sell the lens here I'll pay the small fee for it.
Other items at Amazom fluctuate that way too. Example in point is the Mofie Juice Pack, a backup battery case for the iPhone 4S. I put it in the cart and it has jumped up and down by 25% from week to week.
Resale value of Sigma lenses, especially the 17(18)-50/2.8 lenses are never going to be good because Sigma keeps updating them every two years. I purchased an 18-50/2.8 macro back in 2008 for $470. Since then they made the HSM version and now the 17-50 OS version.
Compare this to Canon or Nikon who made their 17-55's and have not changed them in almost a decade (Nikon) and you will see that your investment in this particular lens will not be fruitful.
Ah, ok. Good to know, so hopefully it's just the rebate? Anyone else know if this is true? If that's the case I'll just wait two months. Ugh I can't wait until I buy a Canon 24-70 and am done with this dumb thing. And that was NOT a plug to try to buy one on here.

Sigma lenses generally have low resale value/ fast depraciation. I bought my 50/1.4 for ~$650 when it first launched. Look at where the price is now both new and used. Of course, the update to the exterior finishing have everyone thinking the original crinkle finish is crap does not help
