p.1 #1 · What glue for Nikon rubber?

The rubber is peeling back in a couple of places on one of my bodies and on an MB-D10 grip. What types of adhesives have people had luck with?

By the way, it doesn't have to look pretty so I don't want to send it to Nikon to have them replace the rubber. My bodies are all beat to hell already so I just need the rubber stuff to stop peeling back and annoying me.

Gaffer tape.

It's what I'm using till I get around to fixing it properly. So far so good!

From what I've read, the rubber grips are held in place with an adhesive that permits easy removal if repairs are needed. Apparently some of the access screws are behind the rubber panels. Here's a description of how to REPLACE the grips on a D700 that includes a link to where you can buy the parts. I've no doubt you could find replacements for other cameras and grips as well. They are not very expensive.

Thanks guys; I'm using gaffer's tape now and that just keeps coming off. Maybe I'll just order the sticky things from Nikon and do it the right way... though this Gorilla Glue sure is tempting.

The double sided tape that is used for the grip adhesive is also sold in narrow rolls (you can sometimes find it on eBay). You can cut it to fit the area you need to reattach.

I would really suggest staying away from WD-40 for removing old adhesive. If any gets around an LCD cover it can fog it. Isopropyl alcohol works better and cleans easier.

I would definately not use gorilla glue because it swells as it drys----real ugly mess.

When I had some issues with the rubber bits on my D200 I used a product called something like Shoe Goo. A friend had it. I used it sparingly, cleaned off any excess immediately and it has been fine since then. And no one would ever be able to tell that it has been fixed. That was a couple of years ago and it is still holding on with no signs of separation.
