I am interested in possibly trying my hand at strobes for basketball games and was wondering if someone or everyone could give some advice.
1. What would be the basic set up i would need to get started?
2. What would be a good starter or midrange set/brand i should go with.
3. Could you explain the process of setting them up and using a little bit. I have done some research but it helps more when i here it first hands from you guys.

Basic... 1 million in liability. Optional... 2 million in liability.

Tom C. Pickard or Hill and Usher.

Get permission from the SID in advance, mail him the policy and also have the policy in hand or on your possession should anyone inquire.

Your welcome. :-)
I'm just guessing here, but I would say you might not get any additional answers to your questions until you respond to Paul's post. Basically, it's MUCH more than just buying strobes and heading to the gym to set them up. So, if you don't have liability insurance and aren't willing to get it, then strobing isn't gonna be for you at this point and time. If you've already got the insurance and permissions covered, then we can talk.

Or any response at all. It is common courtesy to acknowledge people who take the time to respond to your questions.

hey ben,
so far i am sure these are not the answers you were looking for but . . . a book i often go to for advice says, "The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice."
what glass are you using? i personally am not into the strobed look. IMO only a couple people here do strobes that are good to amazing.
glass? do you have a fast prime? 85 1.8 is where i would start. you are welcome to use mine for a week if interested.
sorry for not getting back to respond before now. I greatly appreciate anyone taking the time to open up a thread. so thanks paul , marty, scott, grant, trojanhorse, and krautfre for taking valuable time out of your day to help me out!! As far as insurance goes i do not have that yet so it looks like I will need to set up a meeting with my insurance rep before i think any further into the future! what does a 1 million minimum run a month? as far as lens go i have enough saved up for the 70-200 f/4 but would like to save up a little more for the 2.8 both non is. I have the nifty 50 1.8 and am getting close to having enough to buy the 85 1.8 from you grant if it is still available when i reach that point. The more i think about it i should just focus my attentions on getting MUCH better at ambient light before I try anything different anyways. Do you need insurance if you use strobes for portrait pictures with couples? thanks again guys sorry marty for the late response I cant emphasize enough how appreciative i am for the pros advice!
