p.1 #1 · Canon CPS changed to points system

Under the old program requirements I needed one more lens to qualify, now with the points system I am qualified up to Gold. If anyone mentioned this before, I totally missed it. I just finally got myself signed up. I still plan to invest in another lens or two and probably pick up another full frame camera as funds permit.

That's because it used to be free, but now they charge you for it. So it doesn't really matter how much gear you have as long as you pay.

gadget.. not true, under the old system, you paid as well.

Sheri.. I noticed this back in Oct. or so... but I don't think I posted it. I just signed up for platinum.

I would have signed up sooner had I known about the change, gadget, you are incorrect, silver is still free, gold is $100 just like it was before. Under the new requirements you get credit based on points of every qualifying piece of equipment, as long as they add up to the amount needed 10-20 or 50 points, then you are good to go. Even with only the first two items I entered, I was already qualified for silver.

It all was free about 4-5 years ago, but they had more stringent requirements. They went to the new point system a few months ago and there was a thread or two about it. I don't really see a reason for the new point system, but I'm sure it benefits us somehow.

I think it just makes it easier.... and applies more weight to higher end stuff.

I think another thing they also just changed, when you renew your membership (not upgrading), they no longer give you CPS goodies. Just renewed my Gold membership last November and got no goodies.

I know this is an older post, but as an adder I've made a few purchases lately and the CPS discount came out to near 10% on the pro qualified gear. So with the $100 cost of the gold membership cost if can save you many multiples of the entrance fee. This coupled with the service commitments a no brainer to join.

I got swag even for renewing my gold. Honestly it was even better than the original goodies. the renewal came with a CPS golf shirt, the multi tool and lens cloth. I'm upgrading to platinum this year we'll see what happens.
