p.1 #1 · Balls of Acadia Ice

From a recent and chilly -15C morning spent below Otter Cliffs in Acadia National Park. I was particularly drawn to how the clear, pre-dawn sky overhead was being reflected in the high tide induced ice on the round rocks. This is a blend of two-ish exposures. C and C appreciated.

David,
How long did your batteries last?
Seriously, that's painful cold.

Love the FOV, & color here.
I seem to remember this place, not nearly as cold!

Some unique foreground, like the texture and color reflection on the rocks.

Hey David,

Very nice job here. I really like the way those balls reflect the light.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It really didn't feel that cold, and I didn't even have to change the battery once in about an hour spent here. The line of ice left behind after high tide was what really drew me to this composition, and I had to be quite careful navigating what was a slippery scene.

Dean and user222... thanks. I have to admit, the dinosaur egg thing did come to mind when I first saw this.

Great effort here David, love that foreground and the detail you've captured! Yet another place I need to visit sooner than later

David:

Always great to see your work around Acadia (you should post more!). Hope to get there in the winter at some point, but perhaps I would be disappointed with what I come away with after having grown acustomed to your fine images.

Excellent job on the blending. Did you adjust the focus point as well as the exposure?

Dave

Thanks Dave. It's never disappointing to be in Acadia! Come on up and let me know when you do.

I did not adjust the focus point, and if looking really closely at the full frame file, distant elements are less than tack sharp. I really should learn more about focus stacking

Nori... thanks. I have enjoyed your work from around this part of the world. I had a few more creative titles in mind, but figured I would stay on the conservative side with this one

Thanks for the kind words. A very simple gradient mask using two exposures usually does the trick!
