Haven't posted in a while and would like to know if I am moving in the right direction or just spinning my wheels. I'm still struggling with compensating for the cycling lights and PP in general is my weak link. C&C appreciated.
Paul, Thanks for the comments. I am usually a little underexposed and this time I guess I went too far the other way, I'll work on that.
#4 I thought had enough face to justify, but I can see that the more object opinion is that is does not
#2 I can see doesn't tell the story that I saw. Player 12's drive to the basket was blocked and he made a quick behind the head pass to player 40. Looking at it now I can see that the photo is not as impressive as the memory. I need to select the photos not the memories. Thanks again.
As a fellow new sports photog (who is shooting for the local paper), I can offer the following opinions. First as everyone has noted your white balance is off. It's almost as if there is too much light in the gym which seems impossible
1 is the best of the bunch. Got a 100 shots like #2. Yes, it was interesting at the time because you saw it happen, but the picture gives none of the story. Just a bunch of guys standing around flailing at the ball. #3 is okay though I'd crop tighter in from the left and down. As for #4, it depends on whom you are shooting for. I hate to even appear to be disagreeing with Paul (kind of like telling the pope she's wrong but I have had to use shots like this when the political considerations (i.e. has this player been in the paper, is he a senior, etc.) force me into what is not the best shot(s) of the night. (Overall I'd suggest playing with tighter crops.)
All and all, good early efforts and as everyone always says, keep shooting.
