I would like to start off by saying how much respect i now have for you guys who hold your camera w/70-200 for 2 hours shooting. I am 26 and in good shape and dang was my shoulder sore the next day!! I didnt realize how heavy they can get im sure like anything else muscle memory will make it easier the more i do it but i was surprised. I had the chance to shoot hs basketball for the first time in my life on Friday night and I dont know what to think of my pictures. I feel they are ok to my eye but to someone who has more experience and expertise they might not look so good. I was just hoping to get some feedback from everyone on the things that were ok and the things that could be improved upon next time. I shot most of these shots between iso 2500-3200 with shutter speed at 1/500 for the most part and 2.8-4.0 aperture. Thanks for looking you wont hurt my feelings so critique away, but remember I have only had my 7d for 3 months and it was my first time with bball so don't wreck my confidence to much. Thanks again
First off... there are too many pics here. Many of them could have been eliminated. Overall though, not bad. Here is the take...
1... don't cut feet
2... good action, but soft
3... fine
4... far court shots can be tough if you don't have the reach and have to crop a lot.
5... too many cut limbs and it's soft.
6... NO!
7... cut limbs
8... soft, noisy, and not flattering for the kid.
9... cut limbs. I'm seeing a lot of accidental chops. Turn accidental chops into meaningful crops.
10... Cut feet. What's with the mirror effect on this
11... NO!
12... No faces.
13... Not bad. Not quite enough face to make it a true keeper, but I see what you are trying to do here.
14... heavy, heavy crop apparently. Everything is in focus and noisy.
15... best of the bunch action-wise, but it's soft.
16... also not bad, but the action is going away from you. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish with the reflection effect, but I would lose it. It's distracting.
Technically, as a whole, the WB is a little on the cool side and the colors could use some punch.
thanks for the response. that reflection is stupid idk what i was thinking. could you give a few pointers on how to get my pictures more sharp, what should i do to make the colors pop more, and where is a good place to crop to make it look better. anyone feel free to mess with the pictures to show me what i could get.
ps is the b/w color accent a cardinal sin or something that only works in certain situations? would like o know if i can be used at ll or is a big no no
They look somewhat underexposed. Try bumping up the ISO to 6400 and expose a little to the right next time. That will give you a faster shutter speed and should cut down on the soft shots (assuming they aren't caused by focus problems)

Thanks
Ben
Not so much a cardinal sin. It's just that it has been so overdone over the years that nowadays it comes across as noob and amateurish. I think that it can still work in SOME situations, but not here. Look at the shot. Really look at it and tell me why you chose this shot to do selective coloring? Can the shot stand on it's own without it? Probably not. It's obviously after the game or maybe before since other kids in the BG are just standing around and this kid decided to take a fun shot with his warmup jacket on. There is nothing compelling about it.
What you have to do to improve besides the technicals is look at your shots. Really look hard at them and decide what makes a good shot and what doesn't. Training your eye to be critical of what's good and what isn't is what you need to work just as hard at. Look at work of others and determine exactly what you like about "good" shots.
