Find a well used Leica M6 and an older 50 Cron, and you might get lucky for 1000 Pounds Sterling. Sweet camera, built-in light meter. I did notice that you switched from Dollars in the first post to Pounds in your second post

Aha! So that's how mind reading works.

I can't say what's best for the OP.

If it's really only a grand with lens, you looking at CLs or old canons.

If it's 1000GBP, I know what I would like myself:

Nikon SP, of course.

For $1000USD I'd get a Voigtlander Bessa R and either a CV 35/2.5 LTM or a Canon 50/1.8 LTM and spend the leftover on film.

Hehe, this is going above my head at this point. I am decidedly not a mind reader, although I have some amount of empathic ability which can however be used fully only in person, especially over a beer or three

For the OP: I think a logical first step in narrowing things down is to think about negative size and camera weight/bulk. Some of these cameras could easily be ruled out given an opinion on one of these.

Tossing in my vote for the kodak retina II, I am constantly amazed by how sharp it is, and the folding lens design makes it very pocketable.
