Got a 7D awhile back, and I recently noticed that if I shake the camera, there is a rattling noise that comes from the viewfinder area. Canon said it might be the flash hinge rattling, and it's normal. It's not super-loud, but loud enough for a tech to hear over the phone.
Any of you with a 7D care to give it a shake-about, and report your results? I just want to make sure my camera doesn't have a problem, because it just went to Irvine for a cleaning, and I'd never noticed the rattle before.
I just checked mine and it does make a very slight rattling noise when shaken. By very slight, I mean I have to hold the camera up to my ear while shaking it to hear the rattle. I doubt that the rattle mine makes when shaken is loud enough to be heard over the phone.
I never noticed this sound before, however the camera is functioning fine.
Does the 7d have the same orientation sensor as the 40d? There was a little, rattly ball that went to different contacts for portrait or landscape. That was usually the culprit for this question regatding that camera.
Steely little ball rolling in a wee tunnel sound occurs if you slow flip the camera from horizontal to vertical. Popup flash linkage rattles if you violently shake camera. I bet you'd make similar noises if the same were done to you...
Shake the hell outta your lenses and you'll enjoy even more surprises!
