So I checked my google analytics today and I had gained 170 some hits today. Pretty high for my site. 132 of them were from Portland Oregon. How did I screw up SEO or google places page or something else to get 132 hits from a city on the other side of the country? ultra noob error?
Depends what the hits look like, time spent on site, how they found your site etc. Could just be the google bots or some other search engine crawling your site for content to index.

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me a few days ago. I got 81 visits (not hits) from Portland in one day. Weird...
Wow, now that you mentioned it, I had 129 visits from Portland... Definitely not legit though since Time On Site was 0:00.00 with a 99.22% bounce rate.
Does anyone know if you can block specific ip's from being counted by Google analytics? I searched everywhere but found nothing, was hoping someone may know.
I got quite of bit of hits from the forum somethingawful.com. Decided to Google somethingawful and my website url. Apparently, one of the user didn't like how I worded me saying that I won't be cheap for long as I felt I had the potential to get better and improve. He linked my site in a "terriable photos from bad photographers" discussion post where people find bad photos taken by "professional" photographers and trash on them. I still get hits even though this happen several months ago.
