This is a shot with a lot of potential. It's old. It's weathered. We could be looking at the textures it has to offer up close. The short DOF is also blurring that potential on the short end. Bring out the textures.
The shadows are also interfering with the checkerboard pattern. It would have worked better all in shadow or all in sun, or at least smoother transition between the two.
Looking again I see the foreground is blurred (not desirable I think as this is causing a distraction) and is also where the shadows are. Maybe re-cropping or looking at other frames of the same subject I can sharpen the focal point of the photo
