p.1 #1 · How to sell equip. and get paid thru Pay Pal please enlighten me, Thanks

I'm sure I can figure out how to post pics of equipment for sale. I am just not sure how I would get paid thru pay pal. I have a pay pal account but usually only use it when I am paying for something through ebay and it pretty much prompts me automatically how to make a payment. But outside of ebay I am not sure how to use Pay Pal to send or receive a payment from someone . please inform me how. And if I want to sell for an amount net to me how does that work as far as the buyer pays for shipping and fee ahead of time before I ship my equipment. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

You have to activate the 'Seller/Merchant' feature in your PayPal account, and also add your bank account info so the funds can be transfered to you via PayPal. To transfer funds, simply hit the 'Transfer Funds' button that will be connected to your bank account (on PayPal's end), and the money will transfer to your bank. However, you can also request a check from PayPal, but lead time is much longer.

Once you've completed the necessary steps, you simply supply your PayPal registered email address to the prospective buyer, state in your terms that the buyer will add an additional 3% fee to your asking (or agreed upon) price for the equipment, and sends full payment as a PayPal gift.

PayPal deducts 3% from your payment as a 'handling fee'. That's why you request an additional 3% from the buyer, so you are fully reimbursed for your sale. It's a standard on the Buy and Sell forum, and no one will question you for doing so.

An alternative to PayPal would be an 'Out of State Deposit' with Bank of America, though you have to be a customer at that bank. If you are, anyone can immediately make a payment to you for the purchase price, without the addition of 3 %. The money is instantly transfered to your bank account. And, they don't have to be Bank of America customers.

I've paid for FM gear that way, it's a great feature that doesn't cost the buyer a penny more than they want to spend. Very enticing.

Did you know that asking sellers to add the extra 3% is against their TOS, and if they find out that people from this site are doing it, they'll shut down your paypal account?

Not being all tin foil hatty here, but they've done it to a few of us already on a car forum we're on. I guess they got wind, and stopped all the transactions and shut down our accounts. So just saying, be careful there.

Especially if you're writing in your notes on paypal that the 3% is for the fees, and or your associating your name with a specific forum. That is how we all got caught.

Just giving a heads up. I'm not saying don't do it by any means, im just letting you know.

Let me get this straight, Shark. You want the buyer to pay the paypal fees---AND send as a paypal gift so you don't actually get charged any? Very ethical-glad to know upfront that you think this is standard operating procedure for all of us!
Personally, I worry that someone who doesn't mind defrauding PP might not mind defrauding me!

Actually,

I've never sold anything here. I've only purchased, and in the sales I've participated in, those were the sellers terms. More often than not, when I am searching for more gear to buy, those are the terms I still come across. I ALSO suggested Bank of America Out of State deposits, which don't incur any fees.

Don't be so presumptuous next time, and get the name right.
