Cool image Morris. I like the idea of producing such sequences. I suppose you have to be careful with the panning, else stitching would be problematic.
For the capture you want a nice pan with even timing between the photos so a burst will work. You will need some overlap of the scenery yet no overlap of the animal.
I processed in Photoshop using layers with each image in its own layer. As I used 6 images I expanded the canvas to 6 times the with in pixels and 2 times the height. Starting at the background image (bottom) and the one above I set the opacity at 50% and drag the top to align with the bottom. Then I set the opacity of the second back to 100% and set the opacity of the third to 50%, drag to align and then set back to 100%. Repeat through the stack, flatten layers, crop, clean up and done.
