I've had one for about six months now. Very pleased with the results. I mostly use Epson papers (lustre) and some Ilford (Galerie Pearl) and the prints are very, very good.
I had a custom profile created for the Epson papers and coupling that with a calibrated Apple monitor, I get what I see on the screen. Can't ask for better than that.
Before, I had an Epson R1800 which absolutely was a wonderful printer especially with the Epson papers. However, keeping the thing from clogging was killing me with the waste of ink. With the Canon, I've not had one problem with this....yet it may be a week or two sometimes between uses.

This is a superb printer--I have used the 9xxx series for the last decade.
I have been using OCP ink for refilling, my refill cost per cart is $0.25!! My print quality equals the OEM ink. No clogs, no fuss, no mess just $avings and hi quality printing on this P9000 MK ll. I do landscapes/panos, 13x19 and up.
Use your OEM carts for refilling, with TLC they will outlast your printer!
Rjettek (www.rjettek.com) is now selling 8 oz bottles, ~$10, get more refilling from them or post me offline.

It is a excellent printer for the money and gives great results. The ink carts are small and if you are doing any large amount of prints ink can be costly. Non OEM inks are cost effective but remember you will need new printer profiles for the ink and papers. If you will be using Canon inks and papers, you can simply let the printer manage color with great results.

I have both the 9000 and 9500 MK II's for over a year now. Love em both.
I use only Canon inks but use both Canon(minor use) and Red River papers(99% of the time). Dowload RR's ICC profiles and never had a problem using both the Canon Easy-Photo or PS print flow.
They both are a bargain and the quality is excellant. Only 1 clog in over a year whereas my Epson2200 clogs 99% of the time if not used weekly.
Can't go wrong IMHO.

Me too......In the year I have owned this printer I haven't had a single clog...and with the cash I have saved by refilling carts with OCP ink, I could easily buy another printer (I did, a R2880!!).

@mdbassman
Dan,
Which of the two Canon printers clogged and how long did you leave it before it happened?
the 9000MKII and it was a few months and the clog was a very minor one. The yellow was there but not in full.
It has not clogged since after longer periods of non use also.

Cheers Dan,
I have the 9500 mk II which I bought for it's B&W capabilities. I was wondering how long I can leave it between prints.
When I fire it up and use B&W will the printer purge a bit of each color too, or do I need to print a color print occasionally?
I can only answer 1 part of your question. I just used my 9500 MKII after about a month of non-printing and it printed fine on the 1st print. I have used it longer between print without problems.
I should mention that it was the same for my 9000MKII also. It was just that1 time the yellow clogged a bit..has been fine ever since with weeks to a month between prints.
Now the 2nd part of your ??,you will have to read the Tech specs on that one or maybe someone will "chime in" here and answer your question. I just don't know. Both printers do go thru a "startup cycle" prior to printing but I don't know if purging a bit of ink in each cartdridge is part of that.

I got 1 for the same price new in box! I am headed out to buy paper today, and advice on what to use?
I use Canon Plus Glossy II in my 9500 MkII for color prints. It is relatively inexpensive, smooth, and the Canon drivers come with profiles for their papers. Canon Pro Platinum is even smoother, but costs twice as much - I reserve this for very special prints.
