p.1 #1 · Fuji X Pro 1 and X100 interest poll

Just curious what the interest level is for actually buying the Fuji X Pro 1, particularly from past, present and future X100 users. Will the size difference impact your choice? Versatility? Love to hear folks reasoning.

I suppose option 4 (Buy X Pro 1, no interest in X100) fits me best of the choices available but at present too little is known about the X Pro 1 for me to know whether I should be interested in it or not at this time. It's a compact APS-C camera so automatically I have some interest but not necessarily automatically have a buying intention therefore no vote from me.

When details become available, including evaluations of lens and sensor performance, handling, whether or not it supports adapted manual focus lenses, and whether the camera addresses certain short comings of the X100, then I might move from being uninterested to interested.

Poll choice 5 maybe? "Had an X100 or X10, sold it, don't know if X Pro 1 will bring me back"

p.1 #3 · Fuji X Pro 1 and X100 interest poll

I honestly don't really care for the 50mm focal length all that much, nor 28mm either. I just like the overall look of 35mm for its near perfect IMHO, way of capturing both a subject an the environment at the same time.

Likewise, I enjoy something wider, say 24mm or ideally 21mm for the wider end, which I don't know how long til will show up, though the 90mm equiv does sound great.

Have to see if/when adapted lenses could be possible and what else Fuji might release for the system to really work for me.

Otherwise, spending a few thousand dollars on the X pro 1 just to have a couple of focal length choices that while very useable, just aren't my ideal preference doesn't make much sense really. Would just be buying it to buy it, spending money for the sake of spending money and these days thats not a luxury I can really afford to do.

X100 has its limitations of course, but overall works for the way I shoot. I can use an adapter to get 24mm out of it, so I've got 24/35 with it, and getting two of my preferred focal lengths for less than half the price of the new camera just makes better sense.

If/when more lenses come out, such as some wider options, or we can easily use something like a VC12 or 15, and the camera makes MF easy to do, then I'd probably upgrade, but better IQ alone doesn't mean much if its not how I "see"

I prefer the 28mm FoV so the XP1 with the 18/2 is interesting. If I can adapt I'd have a nice lineup of lenses to go with the 18/2.

I plan on keeping the X100 and getting the Pro. I really love the X100 and the FL and since the Pro won't have the 35mm view, will likely kept the X100. I have numerous 49mm filters as well so unless the other Pro 1 lenses are 49mm, will likely keep it for that reason too. Just love the whole package!

So far, the X1 is the closest to what I personally would want in a mirrorless, even beating the Nex7. However, until someone comes up with a FF body, I have no interest.

Michael Watkins, hopefully we will learn more details next week during CES. The important ones for me are size and weight as I have this nagging feeling that both will put this camera into the next size up category making it not nearly as portable to carry everywhere as the X100 is but we will see. I guess for adaptability, whether or not these lenses have built in leaf shutters (the price would make me think not) or their is indeed a focal plane shutter is another big deal for some. I'm also in the camp that finds the 35mm focal length to be just about perfect.

The whole portability issue is a big one for sure, as is price/value. X100 was nice because it was rather compact and light, and also not outrageously expensive, so it was the type of camera I'd throw into my carry on bag wrapped up in a tshirt for protection. Made travel very easy because not only did I not have to worry about it, but also because there where no other lenses to take.

I found my M system compact enough to where I could take it pretty easily, as with my m4/3 system, but i'd always have to then take a few lenses and then would need to a small bag to carry them, and suddenly I found myself not all that compact anymore. Plus the money tied up in the Zeiss and Leica glass also made it a factor as to where I wouldn't just want to carry a lenses around in a spare jacket pocket. Just too valuable of items to treat like that, which could at times be a burden of sorts.

Obvious solution would be to take just a camera and one lenses, but somehow I always find myself unable to do that.

I can't say I'm only going to use one lenses when I've got more, any easier than I could buy an ILC camera and not buy more lenses for it, or spend hours reading about oter lenses, adapters etc. Part of the fun in a way, yes, but at the same time, it is kind of nice with the X100 to know that theres nothing else to buy for it (though I do mess around with cheap conversion lenses at times lol)

I mean, if the X Pro proves easily adaptable I can only think of the hours I"ll waste on buying different adapters, searching Ebay et al for deals on various glass, days spent doing test shots etc. Yikes! lol

Size and weight probably won't be a problem for me; compared to the X100 everything I've used since is a little heavier and sticks out more on the front, but the NEX and GXR even with my longest fattest lens up front both fit in the same small case I was using for the X100, just oriented sideways. To be honest I always felt the X100 lacked some necessary heft to aid in damping photographer (me) induced camera motion.

I like a 35mm effective focal length but appreciate a 28mm EFOV even more so as that's an option it is a +1 for me. I'm ok with a focal plane shutter; I'm in the camp which would appreciate free access to any shutter speed at any aperture; I wouldn't want to trade that for a silent leaf shutter again. Maybe I would feel otherwise if there were more customization in the X100 for buttons such that I could always have the ND filter at hand but I needed that one Fn button for other purposes all too often.

A curious on-looker I shall remain for now.

I would be very tempted to get this cam with the wide and the tele end lenses. But let's wait and see how this cam works when it comes out. I will not get one of the first - I will rather shoot my NEX until I am convinced to make the switch ( or not ). Also not sure I would like to part with my ZM 35/2 at the moment, even if it would be useless having the 35/1.4 as a kit lens. Anyhow, no reason to sell the 5N this year for me.

I have an X100, and I'm keeping it. If the X-Pro 1 provides the same excellent IQ as the X100, then I'm going to buy one, or maybe two.

That describes me. The maddening manual focus of the X100 drove me away after several months of a love/hate relationship. If they get manual focus right on the X-Pro1 I will definitely get one, though I'll be eagerly awaiting a 35mm equivalent. Once a 35mm equivalent is out, I'd seriously consider getting two bodies and leaving the 35 and 90 (equiv) stuck on each.

Love my X100, but I'll probably sell and buy a X1 and the 28/50 (18/35), barring worse performance than my X100.

With a 28, I can do pretty much anything the 35 on the X100 does, and it's nice to have the option for 50/90 (and whatever other focal lengths come out, plus M-mount lenses, etc.).

Re resolution, even tho only an APS-C it is said by Fuji to equal if not surpass FF sensors because it does away with the AA filter a la Leica.
I've penned a thread on the X Pro there btw

Shooting the X100 with anything that moves has been an exercise in frustration for me, I get a fraction of the keepers I get with full manual Zeiss ZF's on my 5d2 or the Nex. The images SOOC are beautiful, but the slow focusing combined with the shutter lag means lots of missed shots. If the MF actually worked the X100 would be a long term keeper as the 35mm FOV is my personal favorite FL, but as it is right now its just not a great camera for me. I'm selling it.

I know I'm in the minority on this board, but I hope they really blow out the video capabilities on the X1 Pro - 1080p 24/30/60 FPS, full manual control of ISO, aperture and shutter speed, manual audio and so on. With no AA filter, no moire - combined with the Fuji image - it could be a stunner. I just ordered a GH2 as a dedicated video camera to pair with the 5d2 and the Nex, this could replace all of them if everything is implemented correctly.

One huge disappointment on the X1 vs the X100 - no built in flash. I love the near perfect fill-flash the X100 always adds. I hope there's one hiding in the body that pops up.

What worked for me - and gave me as many keepers as using any manual focus lens on a DSLR - was to use the MF mode on the X100 in combination with the AFL button for AF in manual mode to basically zone focus for the correct distance in anticipation of the action.

You forgot to add "No Interest In Either One" to the poll.

At least it can't be said that FijiFilm isn't capable of correcting their mistakes! That's a good thing!

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/tag/fujifilm/ What would make me a complete believer is if they either published the specs or created some adapters which allowed for µ4/3 and E-mount lenses to be attached and controlled by the camera. This may be a case of too little too late. Yet another proprietary mirrorless mount specification to deal with? I'm not sure that's going to work out for them at this point. And if it sales don't boom then will they have the means or interest to develop a decent glass line for it? I imaging Zeiss, Tamron, Tokina, and other 3rd party lens designers are scratching their heads a bit over all these new mounts being introduced lately - or do you think they see it as a business opportunity? <shrug> Either way, for the user it's a bit disabling if not overwhelming IMHO.

The µ4/3 spec with release ready adaptability of the entire 4/3 lens line was the right way to do it IMO. Does the E-Mount offer electronic compatibility with Alpha/Minolta glass? What will this FujiFilm mount offer in the way of compatibility with an existing line?

--
BTW, I only know three persons but; I haven't personally met an X100 owner yet who was satisfied with the camera - only those who expressed dissatisfaction and disappointment. <shrug>

I did not forget at all. That's why if you look above the actual poll, it reads "Potential X Pro 1 and X100 Users...". Clearly, those with no interest fall outside of the "Potential" criteria of the poll. There's always one smart ass, right?
