Anybody get one yet? I know it's only the 8th day of Feb but I'm trying to not let this post die...
I thought the release date was in March
I love the Tamron 60mm f/2 macro, but the focus sometimes struggles to keep up with active subjects in low light. I could see adding the 85mm 1.8G if it offers better low light focusing. 85mm should also make a nice long portrait lens for DX.
Also hoping that Nikon releases a reasonably-priced AF-S wide-angle prime, preferably around 16mm.
I used to be a fan of 85mm lenses; F2 Ais on F3 bodies, F1.8 AFD on D70s and D300 bodies.
Using the 105 F2 DC is so much more "thrilling". I like it a lot now. (I am on my third one. I just did not "get it" right away.)
Borrowing a friend's 50 F1.8G, I am impressed. No Nano necessary and it is sharp also.
It does. I don't have a 1.8D so I am not familiar with that lens. Because I don't really need 1.4, I think I will prefer this over the Sigma and save some money although I heard a lot of good things (esp bokeh) about the sigma. Forget the Nikon 1.4G. It's just too expensive (for me ) regardless the performance.
The question is, to pre-order and pay $499 or to wait a bit and buy used for a little bit less (or more if it turns out to be an outstanding lens and not available everywhere like what happened to the 35mm 1.8G a while ago).

Amazon says my pre-order is estimated to be delivered this month...I don't know how accurate that is though. I've seen March listed other places.
Amazon is telling me that it should arrive as early as the 29th of this month. I'll keep my fingers crossed as I have an event to shoot the next day. I reckon I'll rent a Sigma 85 or something.
