p.1 #1 · HELP - Canon Pro 9000 prints incomplete.

My brand new Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mk 2 will not print complete pages - photos, documents or even a Test Print from within Printer Properties! I have printed from the manual, Word, Photoshop and even the bundled Canon Easy-Photoprint EX - all the same, only the first quarter or so prints before the page is ejected. Usually, the printer software and the out-of-paper warning light are then activated to call for more paper to complete the job. All obvious settings for the paper type and size appear (?) correct.

I have re-installed the driver/software with the same results. The box is checked in <Page Setup>, <Print Options>, <Select loss of print data> but this made no obvious difference. The PC has Windows7 64-bit with 16GB of memory and ample SSD/HDD space.

Desperation, frustration and lack of more ideas is a fair description of the moment. I guess that it is not a spooler issue as the unprinted data still seems to be there. The printer trouble-shooter finds no problems. Please help as I just cannot see a solution to the problem.

Being brand new I would call Canon tech support. They were very helpful when I asked them about printing on paper other than Canon's.

I would take it back to the retailer asap or at least formally notify them that there appears to be a fault......I believe they have to exchange it if a fault develops within 6 weeks...check the Sale of Goods Act.

Try Canon support as well, in case it is a silly fault. I would try a different USB lead....I have the same printer and a particular lead linked via a USB hub causes intermittent problems.......I had to go direct from the computer to the printer with another lead before the problem disappeared.

I like the printer a lot...not a single clog after 12 months!! You might want to try 7dayshop.com glazier paper with it......very similar to Ilford Pearl but a lot cheaper...lovely rich prints! I also refill the carts with OCP ink....knocks the ink costs down to maybe 10% of Canon carts...and great results.

I have now spoken to Canon tech support. They were indeed very helpful, but concluded that the printer was defective. It is being collected on Monday for exchange with another one by WEX.

Agree that USB leads can cause problems, and I always now use a direct computer to printer connection. I had anyway bought a new good quality cable for the purpose. I use 7dayshop for many things, but have never tried their photo paper. £8.99 delivered price for 50 sheets of A3! - http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=107081

Apologies Anthony! - I think that the paper you referred to is actually £17.99 for 40 sheets. Still good value. http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=110758

The 'glacier' range is superb...if you have used Ilford Pearl you will know what to expect.....just a lot cheaper!

I have used Ilford Pearl for years. I have already got some and Permajet Oyster to test with the Pro 9000. I will get some 'glacier' in A4 size first and see how it goes. What ICC profile do you use with your Canon Pro 9000? Hopefully, WEX will get the replacement printer out today.

Were you using a USB hub? The times when I had problems with incomplete pages on my 9500 were when it was hooked up to a USB hub. Now that I'm hooked straight to the computer, never had a SINGLE issue.

Hubs caused me some problems in the past too, so I also now use direct connections. As a related thought, are there any issues when using USB 3 ports on a computer connected to a USB 2 printer. I thought that USB 3 was fully compatible with USB 2 devices. However, it may be worth testing!

Are you using the Canon "My Printer" software or Easy Photo that comes on the CD?
There is a tab for troubleshooting and that has helped me with a few "user errors" with problems on my 9000/9500 MKII's.

Dan - I used "My Printer" but found no answers. I was going to try Easy Photo, but.......

I have, I think/hope, seem to have had inspiration. I mentioned my thoughts on USB earlier. I was also a little surprised that neither Canon agent I spoke to on their helpline asked about my USB connections bearing in mind the fairly well known issue 'sboerup' mentioned with hubs. I had been using the USB 3 port on the PC. Rather than wait for the results of the 'escalation' by Canon, there was little to loose by swopping things around and tested the effect of using a USB 2 port for the printer. WOW! I have now printed a number of test pages, documents and photos WITHOUT fault! It will need more time without problems to be certain that the problem has been isolated, but the difference is dramatic. I am obviously unaware of something about USB 3 compatibility - anyone know of an identified issue?

I had one made up to match the OCP ink to the Glazier paper (and another to match the ink to Ilford Pearl )but prior to that I uses SG1 as I recall......and to put ink costs into perspective. I have just received 6 X 100 ml bottles of OCP ink (didn't bother ordering red or green) for £20 including VAT and postage.....that is the equivalent of about 60 new Canon carts in terms of ink consumption.
