Hi folks I am shooting a black male model(friend) tonight with the vintage Onyx back ground. Anyone have good recomendations or tips with this background? The subject is a black guy too.
Thanks,
Mo

Keep your friend as far from the BG as you can, so it will go totally black, and then rim light your friend to seperate him from the BG visually.
Or, put a light on the center of the BG so there's a lighter section directly behind your friend that goes progressively blacker as it nears the edges of the frame.
If you don't have a flash meter, use your camera's histogram on a frame-filling image of a gray card placed at the subject position to set the exposure based on your flash settings.
[Edit: I just realized it's midnight, so you've probably already done the shoot. I hope it went well.]
