I don't really care all that much about the sensor's performance. Performance equivalent to the sensor of the M9 or even the old 5D would be enough for me (provided that it would work well with rangefinder lenses). Full FOV coverage >>> sensor performance.

Agreed. What if it were $2000 or even $3000? - a FF camera with an EVF that you could use any MF glass with? Well worth the cost in my book.

This is obviously the future of digital sensors. I think whatever Leica has planned for their upcoming M10, they should put it on hold and seriously consider putting a Fuji FF sensor in there.

They may have to - who knows if Kodak has developed anything new for Leica to use in an M10!

Just read this, interesting bit...

Fuji-filim said it will build on the success of the X100 model, by adding a camera that features a custom-developed 16-megapixel APS-CMOS sensor incorporating a new filter array and the company's proprietary EXR processor technology.

Great info but 16MP? Nice that we now also know it's a hybrid viewfinder ala x100.

Bernie, we are "off-topic" but those are evocative images. The crazy thing now, is that you have "modern" digital images, that are over 10 years old!

To get back to the topic, I'm all for anything that pushes the market forward on the 'digital rangefinder' front.

An 18mm f/2.0 lens isn't unwelcome. In fact I could be quite happy with the three lens line up they specified although I do wish there was a 23 - 25mm in there.

There is more info on the S1 and F750 than the X-Pro1 so we can probably infer the X-Pro1 is still some ways out.

Also noted in that PR-story, the X-Pro1 will feature a "APS-CMOS sensor".

APS-CMOS (as in Active Pixel Sensor - CMOS) sounds decidedly like standard tech in this regard.

Maybe the organic sensor ate itself already.

"18mm (27mm equivalent) f/2.0, 35mm (53mm equivalent) f/1.4 and 60mm (90mm equivalent) f/2.4"

Not too bad, nice to have a 28 with f2, especially with the extra dof of the crop sensor. Guess I'm keeping the x100 for 35mm equivalent focal length (which is probably what they want people to do)

Wish they offered a wider lens too.

Ooops :-) So it seems to be the sensor of the Nex 5n? Which does not surprise that much after all.
But surpass FF and such claims was obviously a translation bug, and the organic sensor? Already composted itself prematurely - hahaha!
Saves me money after all.... !

Would be underwhelming if its definitely using a tweaked 5N sensor and nothing exotic. At that point it all comes down to how well the viewfinder and build quality stack against the 5N/7, if it can use adapted lenses and if, like the Ricoh GXR, it takes into account the steep angle of incidence.

I would still come away intrigued though if its everything the NEX 7 is without its sensor shortcomings (in regards to how it handles particular rangefinder lenses).

If it's an "EXR" sensor though, does it mean it will look like this?
http://finepix.com/exr_cmos/en/ (from the HS20 I think)

Then can it still be based on the Sony one?

This is most likely not the Sony 16MP sensor from the NEX as it's said to be custom developed by Fuji and incorporate a new color filter array (so not the traditional bayer filter array which is used by pretty much everything else but foveon). I think there must be more info forthcoming regarding this sensor.

APS-CMOS does not count out the new organic sensor by the way. Fuji describes the organic sensor as a "CMOS image sensor with a thin overlaid panchromatic organic photoelectric conversion layer".

Funny though that DPReview posted ~13 Fuji camera releases at midnight and none of them are for this camera...

I confess to be a bit disappointed as this is not exactly what I had in mind based on Fuji's literature about the organic sensor. Sony's implementation seems to be more interesting.

I already got the impression that you were getting your hopes up a bit too much, Edward.

I think it would be great if Fuji would come back with any interchangeable lens camera with a EXR sensor of at least APS-C size. I've thought about getting an S5 or S3 pro in the past, but didn't find it so attractive with the low pixel count, no live view, not FF. Maybe they'll come with something more interesting now.

French photo magazine leaked out, and contains the following (via google translate) which sounds interesting:
"And for good reason: thanks to one new provision of photosites colored random pattern of six (instead of four regular on the classic mosaic of Bayer), we can dispense with the tradi-tional filter memory (which actually blurs image) and thus gain in optical resolution aver one definition pixel equivalent."

Perhaps someone who can read French can translate the good bits, the article is available on this thread:
