A variation of some tombstone images taken last year at Mt Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.
I rarely work in PS, as most of you know, but applied a bit of graphic pen effect. And in the process ran into some problems using layers. Cleared up with good advice on the Post-Processing Forum.
How does this image hold up?
Ahh, an optical illusion had me viewing as two vertical columns with the eye bouncing between the two urns - now I see it. That said, the image is still "restless" for me, wiith no where for the eye to land...maybe it is the alternating dark-light rhythm?
The white negative space of the mat next to the white stone on the right is what is causing the shaded side of the stones to become more of a contrasting focal point. If you instead surround the image with a wide black mat the white sides of the stones will be the contrasting perceptual focal points which for me better reveals the symmetry without the ping-pong effect Bob mentions.
