I find myself in an urban setting currently with no real access to what is typically thought of as the wild outdoors. I went out shooting all day yesterday no specifically for this theme but I had it in the back of my mind how to apply 'Wild Outdoors' in the City. The person in the image below is clearly homeless and is living/sleeping in the wild outdoors, just a lot less foliage than we typically think of. I wanted to get a better angle on the person but he was well covered by the cart.
Oh how I wish I could wave a magic wand and make this all go away. This image just breaks my heart. So sad,so tragic...so blessed we all are.
This is indeed a Wild outdoors of a different kind..
Agreed Carolyn. Hard to believe this is another human in this shot, no different than you or I. A warm thing to notice is the apparent loyalty of the dog. He'd be right there just as close if in a 50th floor penthouse -they see no dollar signs. Heart wrenching image Berto, I think your angle is just fine.
I think this is a great entry. The dog really makes the shot for me. The obscurity of the person adds an element of mystic to the shot as well. It is a sad situation, but thank goodness for cities with shelters and free food for people that are down on their luck. It fits the theme in such a unique way because of the irony of homeless survival in the midst of opulent wealth in a modern city.
Wonderful documentary shot and comment . Agree that the dog adds to the impact. Great and thought provoking shot. A type of wild outdoors I hope to never experience.
