That makes you better, I guess...
Wow...where did that come from?? I'm just saying the Nikon prices for refurbs are too much....didn't say anything about being better. Sorry if it makes you less than you should.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but you state it in bit of an arrogant way. First, a refurb is not factory-new, but it isn't strictly-speaking "used" either since it has been re-certified and has a factory warranty (albeit a short one).
You managed to get yours new for a great price. Good for you. Supply and demand has dictated prices well above that for most of this year, including used gear on the Buy&Sell forum here. Considering the average price for a used D700 seems to be $2100-$2300, I thought $2159 with a warranty period was a great deal, especially when the click-count on refurbs has generally been very low from what I've seen.

D700 is 2699 at B&H. Luckily, I have all the gear I need for a long time.
Same here. I'm wondering if exchange rates are also at fault here? My current stuff is doing what I want. So, I've been buying historic camera gear (1860s & earlier) instead of Nikon.

If you ask me, prices aren't going up at all. What we're actually seeing is our currency being devalued - just getting rolling with the biggest hidden tax increase in our history. Not that anyone asked me

Good point. I totally missed that. Should we expect leica stuff to fall in prices since the euro is at risk of collapsing ?

The Nikon store lists refurb SB 800 flashes for $ 377 and they are listed as OOS. I bought one through Amazon refurbed for $ 329. I should get it in a few days.
