Yeah, it would be easier just to swap it. I don't know why I didn't with my 24-105, I guess at the time I felt it would be better to let Canon deal with it lol

Helen,
Just curious (don't have to answer obviously), but in sales like these, does B&H/Adorama/Amazon take a hit with these sales? I am guessing the Canon instant rebate probably does not affect the vendors bottom line, but the extra $100 lately might? Or has costs direct from Canon reduced lately allowing the price drop? I know you probably are not taking a loss per lens sold. Just curious how the vendors do in these cases and if the profit per unit sold reduces or has been adjusted down the line to allow the same profits.
The financial agreements between retailers and the manufacturers / distributors are complicated; it isn’t a clear case that all the items on our shelves or in transit to us are necessarily always owned outright by us at the point of sale to the customer.
In addition, not all retailers are able to negotiate identical contracts with their suppliers – larger retailers or those who can guarantee a greater number of sales (such as Amazon) are often able to access discounts that we are not eligible for.

Speaking only for B&H and this is very much a simplified and generalized reply, but usually when a vendor runs a rebate, the participating retailers are reimbursed by an amount closer to 80% of the rebate value than 100%.
So, the simplified and shortest answer is, "Yes. our bottom line is affected."

I've dealt with adorama in the past, and for this order it was just down to pricing. Though typically I would choose adorama over bh. I actually bought some light modifiers via amazon from you all...but this big of an order (for me) I had to go with the cheapest! I never made it into adorama when I lived there, but I'll be moving back shortly and will have to stop by.

As a super store, I am sure you get a lot of returns. I am curious what do BH and Adorama do with returned lens. If the item appears new, do you put it back to stock or do you always return it back to Canon?

Each return is handled individually. Presuming a lens (or any item) is returned because the customer reports it's defective, it goes back from whence it came.

Either returned to the manufacturer if defective or in need of refurbishment, or sold as open box / demo in the Adorama store or via the website

Is it me or is there not a way to log in to Mr rebates and find the 70-200 on adorama by the SKU for the 1974.00 deal...i keep getting the 2074.00 price
I have the link that takes me to the 1974.00 deal but just concerned that I'm not going to qualify for the additional 4% from Mr rebates

The way I have heard others did it was by adding it to your cart from the $1974 link then linking in from Mr, Rebate and it will still be in your cart, Checkout and you are done.

Another way is to click through the regular Adorama link from Mr. Rebates and then simply past the Adorama URL with the coupon code into your browser's URL bar. Even though you're pasting a new link it'll still be in the same browser session so it will track properly back to Mr. Rebates.
