Where is a good place to find rates? I'm in the Miami market and am bidding on a few commercial gigs. Most of it is real estate work for marketing companies. Print and web use for an indefinite amount of time. Is there a link anybody could give me for a table with usage rights schedules and costs?
I have found FotoQuote to be all over the place when it comes to the actual pricing. A stock photo site or D-65 may have an edge but it just comes down to the client. Even if everybody says that the picture is worth $1600, if the client is only willing to pay $250 because they are cheap, that is what they paid in the past, that's what is in the budget for this project or they don;t care about the quality you may be out of luck.
If you have friends who are photographers or art buyers, they would be good to talk to so you could see what the 'reality' is today.
I bid a job last year using Fotoquote. I thought the bid for usage was high. The client thought I was dirt cheap but booked. Point is, usage is in the eye of the beholder. Andy, it's not completely outrageous to ask the client who you're bidding against so you can come in for a realistic bid. Or so I've been told by a lot of art buyers. It's not good to come in high, but it's also not good to come in low.
