no one mentions how wide lenses perform when stopped down to say f11. I shoot interiors and am keen to find out what happens at these smaller stops.

Any thoughts on the canon 35 1.4 ?

I shoot Nikon so can't comment on that lens. Have you checked out www.photozone.de? They test at all apertures.

thanks Don. I have looked at this site and still feel frustrated at how, as I said before everyone is concerned with all this low light stuff everyone seems to be doing.

It is the same with pretty much all sites and I wish that someone would forget about f1.4 and how much they are and stick the camera on a tripod at f11 and f18 and take a 1 sec exposure at 800 asa and then tell me how it looks.

I would if I were at all scientific. I did a little test today between my 24-70 at 24/28/35 at f8/11/16/18 and the same on my 16-35 all at 800asa. It wasn't scientific enough and to be honest as I work for magazines I don't see the massive differences that other posters see. admittedly there are good and bad settings and the 28-70 does barrel like crazy but actually I do get great pictures but I want the evidence from someone who tests them properly so that I can at least know the consequences of opening up or stopping down.

I will stick with what I have right now as actually in the end, they are just pictures and everyone has dumbed down and just want to see pretty pictures. Sharp at the edge or not.

Here you go:

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=121&Camera=453&Sample=0&FLI=0&API=7&LensComp=0&CameraComp=0&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0

btw most lenses are pretty good by f11, its wide open that sorts the good glass from the not so good- hence the testers obsession with f1.4 performance.
