p.1 #1 · CF card not formatting in MK4

Hello all
I'm a bit of a newbie over here, I have a question that maybe some could help me with.

I have a 1DMK4 I'm using Sandisk Extreme 3, 30mbs 8gb cards that I used with my old MK3.

They have all worked fine until recently

For some lame brained reason after reading on the internet that you can format the card in the computer I formatted the card in my Computer running windows 7.

I formatted the card with FAT 32 selected, I put the card back in my camera now the camera says busy error card is not formatted.

I tried formatting again using FAT, the camera will still not format the card?? I'm stumped.

One more thing I took the same card put it into my 40D and it works fine, I formatted it in the 40D put it back in the 1DMK4 and I get the same error.

I downloaded some images off of my computer to the card and put the card back into my MK4 it works fine, I can format the card in my MK4 but after I format the card in the camera and remove and put it back in I get the same error again any ideas

I would try doing a full erase of the card, and then doing a fresh format in the camera. Here is a free (Windows) program that will do this (there are lots of others):

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Boot-Manager-Disk/Check-Flash.shtml

The primary purpose of this particular program is to test flash cards, but it has an erase function as well. Download the program and double click on the name of the executable file to start it. When the program starts, you will see a simple GUI. Select the drive letter for your card reader, scroll down on the "Action type" list box and select "Full erase", and then press "start". ("Full erase" is the very last item in the scolling list.)

This will clean all of the data from the card, including any bad format information. After it is finished (several minutes), remove the card from your reader, put it in your Mk IV, and then format it (in the camera).
