Using Mac OS X operating system - how do you check the shutter count on a Nikon D300?
I must choose the worst "search" words in the world. I know this has been asked many times but I got no answers when I searched. Thx.

Open the Jpeg file in Preview. Under Tools, select "Show Inspector".

I am the OP. Revisiting this question - not trying to be difficult but I don't use flickr. When I open a Jpeg file in "Preview", and go to "Show Inspector" and I click on each of the options across the top it does not show me the shutter count. Is there another way to do this? I am trying to check the shutter count on my Nikon D300. I use a MacBookPro running Mac OS X, version 10.6.8. I use to do this on a PC but now that I am running a Mac I can't find a way to do it.
Thanks!

Bill, try this:

Simple EXIF Viewer for Mac OS X
http://homepage.mac.com/aozer/EV/index.html

Look for "Camera Actuations"

I'm onna iMac and love using 'Reveal' for Exif needs. Just drag the Jpeg in and shutter count will be found in "Details" if you scroll down.

It's listed as "Image Number " in Preview on the Mac. You need to lick on the "i" tab and EXIF and you will this listed near the bottom. If you can't see it then it must be a JPEG stripped of its EXIF data such as an image saved with Photoshop as a "Save for Web"

The fun part, though, is checking your camera with several different programs and getting several different counts

Preview does work fine for showing shutter count in OS X. Open Preview, open your image, click on tools>show inspector, or command i. In the inspector either look under Exif or camera name. There is a lot less to look through under the camera name tab.

Sorry not to dig up an old thread but is it true the shutter count can be reset by a firmware update of any kind? Which leads me to the question is there a more accurate way to tell your shutter count? Thanks.

If you purchase a Refurbished camera from Nikon USA - do they reset the shutter count to zero?

Thanks,
Bob
