It's a Sigma 24-60mm.

One minute I take a shot and it's fine and not a minute or two later, I look through the viewfinder and it looks dark and grainy and will not/can not focus. Anyone think they know what's wrong? Would it be worth it to fix it or just sell it as a broken lens? Thanks.

Could it be the camera? Does it do this with other lenses?

Your discription indicates that the aperture is not opening after the exposure. Look in the lens after such an event to see if the aperture is partially closed.

My first thought was also that the aperture is stuck in a stopped down state at times. You can confirm this by placing the camera in Aperture priority mode, setting it to about f/22, then looking through the front of the lens and pressing the DOF preview button over and over. You'll likely see that it has a tendency to get hung up at times.

Could be that you're accidentally pressing the Depth of Field Preview button on your camera...

Actually, it's the most likely thing since you can't focus while it's happening. Watch how you hold the camera.

Sorry, I should've made myself more clear. I meant, the lens no longer has a clear view through the view finder. It is broken but I'm just not sure what's wrong. It didn't drop between working and no longer working. I just took one last shot with it and it was fine. And then I looked through the viewfinder again and it was dark and grainy. I cannot autofocus but if I take a shot in manual mode the photo will look fine.

You were very clear with your first post, and perfectly described an sticky aperture. An aperture that's stuck in the closed position will result in slow/bad/no autofocus because the AF sensor does not receive enough light to do its job.

Do the DOF preview trick I mentioned in my last post, and I think you'll see for yourself that you have an aperture that tends to get stuck at times.

Ahh, thanks! I should've posted this earlier. I'm currently overseas and left it back home because I couldn't figure it out. I will once I return home and hopefully it'll work!

It's a Sigma lens. No explanation is necessary, just send it in or sell it.

Thanks guys! You guys were right! It was fixed by continually pressing the depth of field preview button.

That's not a fix, that's a test.

Unless you lubricated it or adjusted the blades, it's apt to stick again sooner or later.
