Thanks Norm. I fly these things all the time and I knew what I would shoot when I first saw this week's theme. I use a remote trigger so I can stay out of harms way too. These things can bite!
Ah yes, the blades did get a good grinding. They were already partially damaged from an earlier scraping at a RC helicopter event though. Anything for the weekly assignment ya know! Heck, I've even taken my pants off for one of these things before Thanks for commenting.

How much weight would those things lift? I bet you could attach a camera and do some surveillance. Cool.
Hey Benny, you are right. This size helicopter could lift 5lbs pretty easy. It has a 60" rotor span. The military does use larger versions of these for border patrol security.

a buddy of mine attached an HD Pro (it think thats what theyre called) to one of these and made a pretty cool video.
Yes, the groups that I'm involved with are doing some pretty neat things with videos from these. In Hollywood they use larger ones all the time to get cool aerial videos for movies and commercials.

I thought this was a real heli...wow, awesome idea and execution. Good one Mark!

Thanks a lot Carolyn. Glad you like this. It was pretty natural for me since I am taking shots of these all the time. The challenge for me on this shot was to press the button on the remote shutter while still using both hands to control the heli. It was definitely a lot of fun to make.

Terrific action shot! Hard to execute, I'm sure - but it came off perfectly!
Thanks Bob. It was a challenge to press the remote shutter button while controlling the heli but somehow the clunky 4fps on the 5D got the right moment.
