I've been approached to do some photography for a 2 1/2 day sports camp and they'd like two types of photos,
#1) Action shots of (a) the kids doing drills and interacting with the instructors and (b) what I normally do, action shots during the scrimages at the end of the camp. No problem with this except to make sure I get something for each of the kids and I may get some help here.
#2) Posed photo of each of the kids with a least one of the "famous" instructors. Static portraits are not my forte and I want to make sure they aren't cheesy or trite, It will probably be hectic getting the right people together at the right time but I told them they will need to take care of getting the right people in front of the camea.
My thinking is keeping the set up as simple as possible. If possible shoot in some open shade with a fill flash on the camera with a difuser --- or a back-lit shot with an on-camera flash - again with a difuser of some type. Shooting outdoors without an experiened assistant makes be hesitant to do any involved set-up but would consider a one-light off camera flash on a stand.
I'm not decided on full-body, 3/4 or 1/2 body shots so will probably do some testing to see how they look and I"m not sure what size to offer -- 8x10 or 11x14.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.with respect to lighting and poses for two people -- an adult and a student from 10-16 years old.
