p.1 #1 · Landscape Photography - Location Etiquette

Hello All. Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I'm planning a trip this weekend to the Eastern Sierras to photograph Fall color. Given the time of year and passing storm this week, I expect the popular locations will be crawling with photographers. This will be my first experience having to jockey for position with other photographers and I was hoping to get some advice on standard etiquette. I'm patient and willing to work around people, so I'm more interested in what to do if I'm approached by someone being pushy. What are some standard rules I can follow to decide when to give and when to push back?

I assume that it's rude to setup in someone's frame obviously. What if someone sets up in front of me? Am I out of line asking someone not to setup within my composition? Has anyone experience this before? How did the other photographer react? How do you deal with conflict? If I show up extra early and get a prime spot, should I feel obliged to relinquish it to another photographer if asked? Anything else I should be aware of?
