I have been shooting events lately and was recently asked to put peoples names with these numerous photos onto my website. Since I can't find a reliable way of frame counting with the camera ...I can't see how I can do this! I am writing down names of people but then have no way of identifying their particular shot later on at home. ...has anyone else had this problem?
Most digital cameras assign a unique frame number to each file. Why can you not use this number? The frame number is usually visible when you review the pictures on the camera.
Thank You Chas you are absolutely right the number is right there! somebody gave me a story about digital cameras not being able to assign a frame number and I couldn't find anything in the manual (OLYMPUS) so I just assumed he was right! Thank you again and I appreciate the help.
1) Use online event galleries such as Smugmug to distribute photos. Upload the photos and provide the client a link to be distributed to all.
2) You can create the gallery ahead of time and print the URL on a inkjet business card to all participants.
3) When names linked to photos are critical, the easiest system is to write down peoples names on a 4 by 6 index card and take a photo of that card after you take the people photos.
Pick up a pro camera, they can record audio clips. I just did this photographing 45 doctors as they arrived for an event. They sat down quickly on the posing stool, I grabbed three or four quick frames and spoke their name, along with spelling into the camera. You can pick up a Canon 1DII for well under $1000. I would guess Nikon has something similar
Thanks Mr645 thats a good idea at this point! I just shot a 170 photo event this weekend and tried to write everyones name down ...I could not believe how much shooting time this wasted! ...worst part is everyone engages you in conservation after giving their name and you can't move on!
If you don't have a pro camera with mic, try using your iphone or similar or dictaphone to record the frame number and people.
I've done the dictaphone/tape now iphone for years at events. 2752 "Sara with a H", 2760"Gary with 2 Rs" etc. Every now and then I will take a shot of my hand as sync so if I do mess up my frame numbers I can work out where I'm at later.
