p.1 #1 · Apple MacBook Pro

Good day!

I am in the market for a new laptop and was hoping to hear some experiences with the current MacBook Pro users. I'm deciding whether or not to drop $ on the high resolution screen. Typically, I would just do it but some non photo forums aren't claiming much of a difference. Also, is anyone using the anti-glare screen?

I'm looking into a 15-inch 2.2ghz with 8GB Ram and just need to decide on screen.

Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Jordan

I had the exact same machine you are looking at, and the screen was a MUST for me, as I took that thing everywhere. If there is an Apple Store near you, they should have the HR machines in there so you can see the difference.

The high-res antiglare screen is amazing, I love mine. The really spectacular difference is actually when working with programs like Lightroom, as you actually have a decent amount of space to work with, unlike the normal screen where the menus take up all the space. My old MBP had the glossy screen, and I would definitely get the antiglare, too. I'm not a big print expert so I can't make any real claims for color accuracy, but it looks pretty close to my Epson 2880's results after being calibrated with a Huey Pro.

I have the 2.3ghz i7 with 8gb, by the way, and the upgrade is definitely worthwhile, it's amazingly fast.

Antiglare is way better than glare. i don't know why it has become so widespread. The industry thinks consumers are obsessed with shiny things, including screens.

I just coughed up the $$ and ordered a 15" Mac Book Pro. The high res anti glare screen was an absolute must.

A word of caution about the high res screen...I know when I first got mine it took a while to get used to how tiny everything looks. The resolution is amazing and now when I sit at a work computer it looks like a kids book to me. But I know when I first got mine it took a bit to get used to the small fonts etc (some of which you can make bigger...)

Just a contrarian thought here.... Buy the 13 inch MacBook Pro, max out the memory and spring the $$ you save on a nice external monitor. I enjoy that setup myself.

I do the same as benee -- 13" MBP with 22" external monitor. You can do Mini Display Port to HDMI, but I do Mini Display Port to DVI. Even though the screen is glossy, it's fine for editing stuff that just gets resized and posted to the web. If I'm printing I'll want to check to see how it looks on an external calibrated monitor.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up with the 2.3ghz 15-inch High-Res Antiglare with 8gb of ram. She was a pricey girl but a beauty. The antiglare screen is incredible. Used it outside on a shoot already and no glare issues at all.
