p.1 #1 · Mother wasp and eggs spring 2011

This is a similar to one of 2009 and similar to one in spring 2010, but I'm always very happy when I see the girls starting new nests with the first warmer days.

Patiently agreed on the pictures showing the eggs.

Very nice. I note that wasp eggs are relatively much larger than honeybee eggs.

I like in the second shot how you can actually see the materials that the nest is made of. I think the shot could have benefited from more of a front on portrait getting both eyes in focus, but I know I wouldn't want to hang around a wasp's nest to get it !

Hi Paul,

I have one shoot of sequence with two eyes in focus, it's interesting to note this nest is near my home and I could follow the development (could even return there and take more shoots if questions arise), the unfinished fave, in the right bottom, was complete on Sunday, I got about 63 shoots in about 1 hour of work, this wasp was very cooperative, a truly behaviour of a future queen. In this shoot there are two eyes in focus but the jaws out of focus make me judge it as sub par image against the previous shoots, but there is interesting feet detail in this last one, and the nest support on the concrete is in the out of focus background.
