p.1 #1 · Combining Subscriptions?

I've just discovered that I have a combined Sell and Image Upload subscription with 365 days left to my membership. (Check the Upload and Sell Admin link at the top of this page to find your own status.) In reality, I didn't know such a combined subscription existed and if it does, I haven't signed up for it. I HAVE signed up for the Buy and Sell subscription which I've maintained for a few years. What's going on Fred?

I just uploaded a photo to try out what appeared to be a new options in the dialogue box for posting, which permits me to choose up to four photos from my home computer, allows me to show EXIF data and select a frame type. I figured something was amiss simply because if images appear on a thread that aren't hosted someplace else, they must be hosted here. Curious...

Did you have a Buy and Sell subscription before Will?

I'm pondering whether Fred is simplifying things by combining the two subscriptions, giving them to existing subscribers for a year before applying a subscription fee increase. Needless to say, adding Image Upload for subscribers likely increases the amount of storage he needs to have available. Of course, disk prices are so cheap now and individual photo files are relatively small, so this might be a simple, inexpensive way for him to reduce administrative hassles associated with maintaining two different subscription lists...

Yeah, I had buy & sell, but an not image upload subscription. Perhaps the community has gotten large enough (or like you said, prices for storage cheap enough) to warrant a simplification of subscriptions.

Has anything been announced for a subscription price increase? If so, I must have missed it.

Looks like the old "Buy and Sell" only subscription has been eliminated completely and only the new "Upload and Sell" is now available. Wonder what the subscription rates are?

I'm sure that is the question on everyone's mind. Buy and Sell was $24.95 and I believe Image Upload was about twice that amount. I've been content using another hosting service that is free so Image Upload never made sense to me. I also very rarely sell gear but I'm happy to maintain that subscription to support this site, which is my home away from home. I have no doubt I'll continue even if the rate is higher but I remain curious about what Fred is up to with this change. I'm surprised he didn't post something on this forum before implementing the change. My guess is once he's done playing for the day that he'll stop by and let us know what's up.

Hi guys,
We made the changes today. You know how I always like to simplify things.
After numerious requests, fredmiranda.com does not have recurring subscriptions anymore. The new service expires after the term is completed and it's now called "Upload & Sell" membership.

*Note: Existing "Paypal" only subscriptions (prior to this change) will continue to be recurring until cancelled by the member.

Members with existing Image Upload subscriptions will continue enjoying uploading images and posting items for sale in our Buy and Sell boards and existing Buy & Sell subscriptions will now be able to upload images.

We now accept Google Checkout as an additional form a payment.

I knew you couldn't ignore us for long if we used the magic words... "Fred Miranda"

So it will now be incumbent on each of us to renew our subscription at the end of its term at whatever the then current fee may be. Do you have a sense now of what the annual fee will be for this new combined subscriptiom? I ask in case I need to arrange a second mortgage on my home...

Once a Upload & Sell membership expires, a PM will be sent with link to renew it.
The link is the same one. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/upload-sell.php

Killer! Count me in with the two year subscription once we get there Fred. All I can say is everything you've done over the past couple of years has enhanced the experience of using this site. You've created a photography website par excellence! Thanks for all your hard work.

Suh-weet! Simplification is great, and I like varying degrees of payments, although I wouldn't mind the option of enabling recurring subscriptions.

What happens after a subscription expires? What happens to our feedback history? What happens if someone renews three, six, or twelve months later... can they get their prior "reputation" back, with all of the above?

Due to all of these questions, I'd suggest three things: having a grace period for renewals, "hiding" someone's reputation after the subscription expires but not deleting it for at least 6 months just in case they do renew, and also allowing for recurring subscriptions.

I travel a great deal, and I'm very forgetful, so I'd be all over a recurring subscription. Furthermore, I'd really hate to lose my B&S feedback if I come back from a two-month hiatus to find it's been deleted because my subscription lapsed.

Hopefully these ideas help to improve the new subscription mechanism.

All good questions, but nothing to worry Rodolfo! I should make a little FAQ and post it on the admin page.
The new Upload & Sell membership as well as exisiting subscriptions are "NOT" linked to feedback. Even if they expire, feedback and all uploaded images stay intact. (Even if a member does not re-join)
Also, whenever it expires, members will get an automated PM alert communicating that the membership expired with a link to re-join.

I'm studying a way to offer a recurring option for Paypal only. I will only offer it IF there is a easy way for members to cancel the recurring bill from the Upload & Sell admin page. Stay tuned.
Fred

I didn't know what that meant. So I called 2checkout.com and they explained that Fred Miranda was changing the pricing structure. The gentleman was very pleasant and provided me with a sensible explanation.

I think the new idea for pricing is great.

Thank you Fred.
