The NEX-5N is a truly fantastic camera. I have not compared it one iota to the NEX7, but on its own and with good glass, it is fan-freaking-tastic. Low light up to ISO 3200 is not even worth talking about, since it's so clean and the grain that does come up looks great. 6400 is still very usable. After that, it's a bit of an issue, but really... who shoots past 6400 regularly? Probably 0.1% of the people who buy cameras. The NEX-5N is a bargain give that the kit lens is very capable and/or can be sold for $200. That gives you the body at $500! Name a better performing body under $1000 right now.

Great shots, Ulrik! The first one has a bit of structure in the noise, and probably cannot really be printed large, but considering the ISO, that is quite a good result. Is that a 5N?

The Camera Store hands on with a pre-production NEX-7...

More of the same as far as these handling videos go but its great to hear that the Zeiss is up to snuff and the 24MP sensor is providing quality images.

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/a-new-version-of-the-bionz-processor-may-be-the-cause-of-the-a77-issues/

An anonymous source just sent me this: “I have learned that the production Alpha a77 has a revised set of new Bionz processors but the Firmware updates were for the older processors. Someone messed up and may have forgotten to have the firmware people test with the new processor. There will be a major update to the firmware as soon as full testing is completed. This is going to delay US and Canada Distribution. The current Firmware was never test on the newer processors that is in the production cameras. So there will be major corrections are needed in the firmware...Show more

And word of the new FW below.

I just spoke with Sony a few moments ago, and indeed it is confirmed that they are working on a new firmware update for the new cameras announced with the 24mp sensor. We didn't get into specifics but there will DEFINITELY be a new firmware version for them to address issues.

Holy crap. Look at these raws processed with the new ACR.

Easily beats the D7K in detail up to ISO 3200, at which point it has a resolution advantage to downsize with. That's with a SLT mirror and Sony's thicker CFA.

Does that mean I'll have to wait even longer to get my NEX-7? Is there a chance I'll get it before Christmas now?

I'm waiting more for the results from the 1.03 firmware, Sony's pretty much admitted that the current (v1.02) firmware has major problems as it's intended for an earlier revision of the Bionz processors and is not fully compatible with the revision that shipped.

Hoping for improved noise performance and the solving of the lock-up issue.

Looks like a nice game, but I am waiting for Bethesda get their rabid lawyers off Notch and under control before I will buy anything from them again.

Hmm, very neat camera. I am slowly beginning to wonder if it might be something for me. The customization of the screen and dials is a huge draw. I would prefer 16-18MP and better DR and high ISO, and a larger variety of native lenses, but it might be enough as is.

I'm definitely going to get a NEX7. My question, for anyone who wants to comment, is - what can my Nikon D700 do that the NEX cannot? I shoot mainly landscapes, architecture and travel, sometimes people in natural light and sometimes live dance productions. Nothing studio.

The reason I ask, of course, is that if I sell my D700 I can afford the NEX (much) sooner, and and lens or two also.

I'm really considering selling the D700, but don't want to regret it later. The classical/modern dance (it is DARK in there) worries me. (tracking focus) Other than that, everything I shoot I do with manual focus.
