JaanOs & cavewalker,
I am mainly interested the in 24/1.4 lens for f-stops f4 to f8.
What is more important than its wide open performance is the sharpness at those f-stops, particular the corners/edges.
What is your experience/test result in these areas?
Why this 24mm should be 1.4 to use it @4...8 I did not upload the same scene raw files taken with TS-E 24/3.5 L II because difference in corners (sharpness and CA) is in another league.
From 24/1.4 Canon and Samyang (strictly based on copies I have) Samyang is sharper and better in corners/edges. And can be quite nice against the light @5.6 and 8.
I think most of these snapshots was taken @8 with Samyang (ACR default settings for sharpening, some adjustments in CA, color and contrast) http://www.upload.ee/files/2072409/jpg.rar.html
File name within archive starts with f-stop (F1.4-SamyangE24mm1.4_MG_9170.CR2 so it is taken @F1.4) and so on. I use FPV Pro as viewer and this is very convinient way to compare shots just scrolling with mouse wheel as chosen position of frame stays exactly in the same place of frame (at 100% and whatever other second magnification you choose).
EDIT: last archive with jpg-s, I do not have recorded f-stops, mostly F8, some of them F5.6. I wish Samyang had used chip to record information in EXIF as Nikon version of this lens
Thanks JaanOs for the samples! I'm impressed by the Samyang, especially after the bad review from Lenstip. It's actually the one I like the best on your samples. I doesn't have extreme center resolution wide open but has way better corners at any aperture and way less vignetting. If I were to buy a 24mm that would be the one... especially considering the price.
JaanOs,
Thanks for the posts & the answers.
Was finally able to look at files.
I think they are more than acceptable for my use, especially at f5.6 // f8.0
I will probably await some more testing results but I think the lens is back on my list to get.
BTW, I am assuming you have the Samyang branded lens.
I have notice that the Rokinon branded copies only carry a 1 yr warranty where as the Samyang is 3 years.

Lenstip review was criticizing the larger aperture (f1.4-f4) performance of this lens and not the f5.6 or f8 performance if I recall right. If you want a good landscape only f5.6-f8 only type lens for $800 this is probably a good lens for that. Other choices in this price range would be Zeiss ZF 25/2.8 with EF adapter.

Wayne,
After looking at some examples at those f-stops, I am hopeful.
But I think I will wait til some more formal test with MTF plots shows up.
I love the sharpness I get from the 35 and want it to be close to that and better than my 24-105 at the wide end.
I am an optimist for now.

I would say the Samyang 35mm is good at F8.
I would say the Zeiss 21mm F2.8 is great at F8 and F2.8 as well.
my samyang is great at f/2.8 and f/8, so are my zeiss 21D and 100MP. I wouldn't be surprised if there is significant copy variation though.

Could be testing method, copy variation?
Dan
It could be copy variation or IQ drop at short distance focus. I guess they test their lenses by focusing on small test charts and thus have to be quite close to it. It could be that the canon is optimized for close focus and the samyang for infinity focus

This is good news, BUT note that warranty is apparently 1 year on Rokinon branded lens.
B&H is offering extended warranty options. It is transferable.
Has anybody any experience with B&H warranties?
I am wondering if the Samyang versions listed on Ebay w/3year warranty are just extended warranty by Foto Tip?
