Like Boris, I enjoyed all the past meetings and look forward for all upcoming meetings, but have no convincing idea what the locations shall be.
I already visited all guided urbex locations nearby Berlin and have currently no motivation to visit these places again. Count me in although if a new interesting location is offered in the summer!
Berlin itself is always interesting for me, but like the urbex stuff: I photographed it too much in the last 2-3 years and ran a bit out of interesting and convincing new locations. When I have a good idea I will post it here.
Boris, thanks for your offerto organize a trip to Slovenia! I've seen great images from waterfalls in Bovec, it seems to be a very good place. Unfortunately I fear I won't be able to realize it with my family here and without a car. It's really quite a distance for a short trip.
What about something like the Dresden-meeting? I really would like to visit Leipzig for example... it's only 1 hour by train from Berlin. I've been there today for one hour (waiting for the next train) and even the main station was very impressive.
As a side note for everybody living in or visiting Berlin in the next two months: I have a photo exhibition (title: Vertigo) with images like these. The vernissage is next Wednesday. Infos about the location etc. can be found in this flyer. Feel yourself invited and I would be delighted if somebody visits it
I'm relatively new to this list and just an observer at this time, but have been fascinated by the photography of most of you guys. There's been some great stuff here.
I will be in Berlin, 17 May through 27, and will definitely try to make it to see your exhibit. The photos do look exceptional.
As a part time Berliner I haven't made all tours. But if I look onto the page of go2know it seems that there are much less locations than there used to be. Is Tempelhof interesting?
Ulff: Congrats to your exhibition and your art. It's a pity that I leave tomorrow, but will visit on a future occasion.
Hi there Markus, and congrats on your exhibition - your "first in Berlin" means you had some other exhibition(s) earlier? I liked the balloon on that v-shape image and saw a couple of vertigo-inducing images in the collection as well.
Any words on the printing technology used for the exhibition? Inquiring mind... you have obviously worked a lot on the images and that make me wonder in what way you chose to present them.
Thanks Stefan and Jonas!
@Jonas: I had exhibitions 20 years ago with analog bw photography. The current exhibition is my first exhibition since then. I haven't had much interest to do exhibitions in the last years and found presentations in the internet more attractive. But the current exhibition was an opportunity and I was curious how my images would look in print. I tested a lot of presentation forms and materials and eventually have chosen 60x60cm prints directly on aluminum (HD metal print as offered by white wall). The material was a very good decision, great image quality, light, stable and as a bonus resistant to UV-light, scratches and even heat, cold and water. The downside is, that they have had production problems. They promise to sent the images one week ago, but haven't managed to produce all images until today. Seven of them are missing and I hope to get them tomorrow. It will be a last minute finish
@Stefan: I've been at Tempelhof and although it was interesting and worth a visit, it had very few really attractive photo opportunities (the great hall was fantastic but not much fun to take photos of with 20 other people in the same hall...). I know nothing of Kummersdorf.
But mentioning a place like Kummersdorf reminds of another place I always wanted to visit: the former Olympic village in Berlin from 1936 which is abandoned for a long time. It is legally accessible by photographers (see here) and someone recommended it to me. I found a few images here. Worth a visit or not? What do you think?
Markus: I wondered if you had used aluminum prints! I think that is the exact right material for your images. But, what a pain with the delivery problems. Here is hope for a successful arrangement in time for the opening. Good luck.
Boris, and anyone else interested: I have thought this over and Soca Valley is too far away for me as well (considering this is supposed to be a short trip, a meeting basically). I understand if you living in Berlin think it's time for a new place to visit.
To me that leaves other bigger cities as options. Maybe big isn't necessary but good communications (including by air) are. I'm open for a visit to Paris or London for example. It's a little short notice to decide anything for the summer but perhaps a September event. What do you all think?
Markus: I visited, more or less by chance, the old Olympische Dorf back in 2007. I didn't find a lot of interesting things. It should be noted that many of the buildings were closed down at the moment. I went into the Gymnastics hall, could see the old kitchen and diner from the outside only (great architecture) and wasn't allowed to take images of the training pool (quite some decay by the time and dangerous to visit due to the roof not being secured). But it may be worth a try, I don't know what I missed!
