Congratulations to you Carsten! - and to us who may get the opportunity to see the images later without having to carry around the stuff. But as you say, lightness is out so I envy you
Unfortunately the Märchenschloss tour was just cancelled, just two days after I booked a hotel and train, and just two days before the tour. I will lose a little money, not so much, but I am sad that it was cancelled, it would have been something quite different. Since I have the time free, I might try to find a replacement, but it isn't quite the same now...
That's bad news if it this is really the case. I planned to visit this place as soon as possible. The future tours seem not to be cancelled although (yet).
[blah blah these sites are often operating under changing conditions]
So, I am looking for something to replace it. Any tips? I was thinking about the Bastei, but I am not sure that it is good this time of year. How long does it take to get there?
It depends who's driving. When Boris drove in the very early morning, despite darkness and fog, it wasn't so long.... But it is also a weather-dependent crapshoot. We had fantastic weather, but he went back next day, and it was useless.
Well, I am booked into a hotel in Goslar. It was a bit hard to find one, so I am paying a bit more than I hoped, but I guess this is Glühweinseason and so lots of people are having fun on weekends. There is a small mountain right next to Goslar, so I have the choice of town or mountain (or both?), depending on weather. It isn't a fairy tale castle, but maybe I can find something nice to shoot.
To the Bastei it is convenient to go from Dresden. Goslar is far from it. The Harz mountain around Goslar is quite nice and there are nice cities like Wernigerode, but it is not comparable to Leipzig or Dresden or the Bastei. Bastei on my opinion depends on great sunrisings. We had that when we were there.
I am at Bonn this weekend though.
Stefan, I decided against the Bastei and Dresden, it is a bit further, including getting to the rocks, and requires more travel time. Since I have so little time I just want to arrive and immediately be ready to shoot. I would like to have 2-3 days at the Bastei.
Spring is here, no? Time to plan for a meeting, or time to realize the Alt Berlin meetings are no more?
Is anyone still planning for a trip to Berlin during the early summer? I may be interested. A glance at the usual place says there is a tour arranged June 6 (a Saturday) at Die Kinderheilstätten in Hohenlychen. Maybe not the most exciting place but it seems beautiful and could be a nice tour to the countryside.
Hi Jonas,
still here, good to hear from you. I actually have no special plans for urbex stuff, but would like to do it once again in spring/summer. At 6th June I am at the rock festival "Rock am Ring" though.
Ah, so there is a rock festival going on that weekend! Schade.
Maybe somebody else chimes in with another suggestion. I'm unfortunately about to run out of free weekends during the first part of the summer. Maybe something at the end of summer. Let's see what happens.
OK, I'll bump this thread once - to check if there is any interest in an Alt Berlin meeting. Are you tired of Berlin? (Really?) Speaking for myself I see no problem meeting somewhere else. Lol - I'm equally bad at all languages.
Jonas, I really enjoyed the FM meetings in Berlin in the past, but I'm not interested anymore in these urbex locations.
But it's not easy to find good alternatives to Berlin (or even in Berlin).
We once had a meeting in Dresden, which was great, but only three people attended this meeting.
If there is enough interest I could organize a FM weekend meeting at the Soca Valley in Slovenia (lots of interesting places there to shoot). But my guess is, that it's too difficult to reach for most people. The town there is called Bovec and it's a 4 hour drive from Munich. For me it's about the same distance as Berlin.
Hi Boris,
I'm open for anything within reasonable limits. Soca Valley however is about 1.700 km from where I live - not a given for a weekend. Maybe one can go by air? I have seen wonderful images from Soca Valley but never been there.
A possibility to see some place I never visited earlier, meeting some friends, having a couple of good meals and a beer is all fine to me.
As things are turning out here the best time for me to go would be some weekend late August or early September. Is that, image-wise and everything else, a good time to visit? In any case, let's see if anyone else is interested in meeting at all, and when!
Hi Jonas,
I'm affraid late August or early September is not possible from my side (due to a planned familiy vacation). I would suggest either late September / early October or some weekend in July. In September you often get some nice autumn colors. The closests airports to Bovec are probably in Austria (Villach or Klagenfurt).
Another option could be, that I pick up and dropp off up to 2 or 3 people at the Munich Airport.
And you can definitely get some good food and beer in Bovec :-)
Let's wait and see if anybody else is interested.
