That is really a pity, Boris. I have been looking forward in meeting you there.

Anyhow, all the best for your surgery.

And, as I will be a local from January or February 2012 on, I'll see you sooner or later

Boris sent me the answer to the Grabowsee request, and it is not available on the 8th of October, sadly. They have offered us a tour of the Fleischfabrik instead (meat factory?), for a group price of 300 Euro. Since we will possibly only be 6-7 people, this would be quite pricy, although it looks interesting.

Fleischfabrik

There is also the possibility of a tour at Spreepark (see Boris' and my old thread on this topic) for 30 Euro per person, but I am less keen on this. I thought it interesting for an hour and a bit, but the material was not as great as the other tours they do. I guess these things have to be booked much earlier.

What do you all think?

Thanks Heinz.

By the way it's not possible to visit Grabowsee on the 8th. It is already booked/reserved for another event.

Boris; I don't know whether to congratulate you, because you will "lose" the last nasty element from your incident in Bodö, or to commiserate that it is not yet over, and we won't see each other...

I must say that I find the pricing of 300 € quite impertinent, but maybe that's just me. They quote a price of 30 € per person on their website, which I find ok. 6 times 30 is 180 € in my maths.

I am not so much interested in Spreepark, but, as always, if the majority is interested I will join.

I would be interested to visit and photograph inside one of the Museums, specifically in the Bode Museum for an hour or two. I was searching on the net if photography is allowed inside (also with a tripod) and found this site:

http://locations.icmore.de/

This site is also a nice possibility to see which locations we are interested in.

Opinions?

Frankly, I find the Fleishfabrik attractive, all the more so as it seems that we could have a good session even if it rained. So I am willing to chip in 100€ if that helps. But I am sure other choices are fine as well. As it was Boris who didn't want to do Tempelhof, now that unfortunately he has declined, maybe we should add this back to the list of possibilities...

I also find 300 quite high. We could inquire if we can go for the regular 30 Euro per person, but I guess they quoted a price where we would be the only people there. I do find the Fleischfabrik interesting.

Okay, let's settle the Fleischfabrik question:

1) Who would/would not be interested if we have to pay 300 Euro for the group?
2) Who would/would not be interested at 30 Euro per person?

Do not like to confuse anything by adding some suggestions I have found through googling:

- Flughafen (airport) Gatow has a "Flight Museum" with old military airplanes.

That could also be interesting, if the other options fail. What is your opinion on my two questions?

Actually I find it too expensive, if less people join in, the more one has to pay per head.

Berlin has so many photo opportunities, that we do not have to pay that much.

I found for example "Schöneberg Südgelände", an areal completely enclosed by railroad tracks. The area has been released back into mother natures creativity only, with an abandoned old steam locomotive, birch trees growing all over the old tracks and other rusty rail equipment.

The birch trees and other trees and shrubs should be at the peak of their autumn colors by October 8. An extra free bonus.

This looks like Hans-Baluschek-Park. I have been there quite a few times. I would go there, but would prefer something new.

Yeah, it is obviously the same park, just two different names.

Boris, good luck with the surgery!

I'm afraid that I as well probably can't join you guys on the 8th in Berlin. Things have piled up while I was on vacation and it looks like I'm toast that weekend. While I was away my colleagues chose to invite some important customers of our company to visit Stockholm 6-11/10. It hasn't been 100% confirmed yet, but it's very likely that they'll come and as I'm in charge of that project, I can't bail

Is there a next date planned after the 8th?

Not yet, but we could start… Too bad, I was looking forward to shooting with you.

So:

Oct. 8: carstenw, philber, Morfeus, Jonas B, IDURITA

To confirm: Vincent Kluwe, alba63, Ajay C, Ignacio

Cannot come: Ulff, cyra, denoir, Bobu

So, when is the next date after Oct. 8 where people would like to meet? Since fall will probably be fairly advanced, we will be looking at fairly naked trees, grey skies, and so outside shooting should take that into account. Diffuse lighting is quite likely.

I would suggest sometime around early- or mid-November, but we could also meet later, if it fits better.

Hmm... EUR 300 to somebody who put a fence around an abandoned factory is a lot of money. I'll do you all company for EUR 30 if possible. If everybody but me finds 300 OK I'll chip in my part.

However, I'm not particular; I have booked a flight to Berlin for an environment exchange, because I like Berlin and for meeting you (any order you want... ). At start I wasn't thinking about any exotic environment for shooting except for Berlin itself. So, I'll just try to find something wherever we end up.

Tempelhof, as a place suggested earlier, will be very much less abandoned and with a low decay ratio I guess. But it would certainly be OK with me. From experience I know time can pass quite quickly at events like this so I don't think we should try to do too much. It would be nice if we can have lunch, and find us a nice coffee shop as well later, for chatting.

Yes, 300 is quite a lot, especially now that it looks like we are just 5. That would mean 60 Euro each, or if we take up Philippe on his generous offer of paying 100, then 50 Euro each for the rest of us. Hmm.

So, what should we do. Specifically, what should I research in the next week or so? Here are some choices:

1) We cough up the money and book the Fleischfabrik tour, and try to scrape together more people than the 5 we currently have. It is expensive, but we consider it a special occasion and just do it. I resist slightly, but have to confess that I feel attracted to the place. I think that neither Heinz nor Rudi are interested in paying so much, however.

2) I can ask if we can go on the regular Fleischfabrik tour for 30 Euro per person, but I think they won't accept it. It sounds like this is not one of their regular tours, and they have to make special arrangements.

3) I can look more into Tempelhof, but there is a very real possibility that we would be restricted to shooting outside. I still think it is a neat location, and it is so large that I have not exhausted all possibilities, and would be happy to go back. The open area is huge, but there are still things standing around to explore. Expect a lot of walking. Too bad we can't all bring bicycles to get around. Actually, we could rent some. That would give us more flexibility, even in Berlin in general.

4) We choose something from the lists below. Philippe didn't fill in the list, but expressed an interest in the Fleischfabrik and Tempelhof. Unfortunately Rudi has Tempelhof very last Potsdam/Sanssouci/Pfaueninsel are consistently in the middle, so that is another possibility.

Jonas:

7 Beelitzer-Heilstätten
6 Tempelhof
5 Tiergarten
4 Olympisches Dorf
3 Potsdam/Sanssouci/Pfaueninsel
2 Technikmuseum Berlin
1 Botanischer Garten
0 Gärten der Welt

Rudi:

6 Potsdam / Sanssouci / Pfaueninsel
5 Gärten der Welt
4 Tiergarten
3 Beelitzer-Heilstaetten
2 Technikmuseum Berlin
1 Botanischer Garten
0 Tempelhof

Heinz:

7 Beelitzer-Heilstaetten
6 Olympisches Dorf
5 Potsdam /Sanssouci
4Technikmuseum Berlin
3 Botanischer Garten
2 Tempelhof
1 Gaerten der Welt
0 Tiergarten
