p.2 #1 · Weather sealed lenses...does a list exist?
I read somewhere that Canon includes a lifetime warranty for the rubber seal on the L lenses - can anyone confirm it? I need to get my 16-35 seal replaced.

The 400DO is also weather sealed.

This is because the sealing around the mount is not the entire extent of the sealing required for the lens. The lens itself has to be sealed inside the focusing and zoom rings (where applicable), as well as any switches and other seams. The front of the lens in many instances also needs to be sealed with a filter.
That, and also because they don't want to give any advantage to those who are using non-L or third-party lenses on 1 series.
Of course, who would ever think of such blasphemy?

You're the first to claim that the 100-400mm has weather sealing. Where did you find this information?

why didnt Canon just put a serviceable rubber seal on the 1 series bodies to begin with...so all lenses would be weatherized.
Weather sealed lenses have a slightly wider lens mount to accommodate the rubber gasket. If the body had the seal, it would not make contact with the existing non-sealed lenses.
