C&C my website: Aspiring Pro - Ready to solicit paid work from Modeling Agencies?
Hey guys - so I'm wondering your thoughts on my work and if I'm "ready" to start soliciting paid work with Modeling Agencies in the NY area. I'm trying to get into editorial/commercial/fashion shooting.
My goal is to start out having agencies send their models to me for paid testing’s.
Please be brutally honest!
As of right now I would say I'm hesitant because I feel I need more faces on there... to show I've worked with more people.
But I'm wondering if you just think my work is plain out good enough? Anything to work on from a photographic standpoint? Website design?
Hit me with it! Brutal honesty! If positive, please be so. If negative, let me hear it!

I'm not diggin' the WB on your Bio pic.
Not sure if it is meant to be artistic or is simply incorrect. I'd think that if you are planning on working for agencies and doing "testing's" the ability to be technically correct would seem of significance to show the agency how the model photographs ... rather than how you can apply artisitic impressionism.
The fact that it raises the question (right or wrong) gives me an insecure feeling about your technicals regarding color. There are a couple in your port that also make me wonder about the cyanic tones.
I've got ZERO experience working with ad agencies in NY, and it has been about 25 years since I did anything with models on the west coast ... so my .02 is likely worthless in some opinion's, but that's my .02.

I like your work but your bio states: "strives to create the feel of a real life moment, as opposed to a static posed shot." The work you present does not appear to embody that ethos, as most of your photos seem to be posed.
On top of that, you have some images that are repeated twice in your site.

The BIO pic is supposed to be artistic. I applied a cool tone to it. The other photo's should give you an idea about how I handle white balance. Which others in my port do you feel are not correct?

Yeah, I should re-write that. That was regarding my lifestyle work, which I only really have like 4 shots of, and your right - they don't look like captured moments anyway... so yeah, I should probably re-write that.
Thanks for pointing that out.
The redundant pics are that way, which I'm aware of. I have my home page which I put up my favorite shots. Then in book 1 & 2, they are also in there, along with other new photo's the viewer has not seen. Perhaps I should re-think that layout though, and make the home page just 1 image I'll think about that one too, thanks.

I would say yes, make the home page just 1 image. it's OK if that image appears in another slideshow (I would put it at the beginning of the slideshow so it looks intentional and not haphazard) . But a collection of images, all of them appearing in different slideshows, some in more than 1 slideshow, looks haphazard. Best of luck

I was quite certain it was intentional toning ... but combined with the Yeshe4.jpg, it just raised the question, that infused some element of doubt. It might seem nit-picking, but a) you asked, and b) anything that puts doubt in other people's minds is something to be wary of ... even if you decide to keep it that way.
Most of your images seem to emulate others work and as such does not have a standout quality to them. This keeps you in the mix of heavy competition ... adding even a smidgeon of doubt ... people will simply move on past. You're trying to tap into a tough market ... every chink in the armor can be the one that lets in the fatal blow.
Others will disagree and suggest it should be obvious that the Bio pic was toned (and it is) lauding how they love the artistic quality of your vision ... but it still made me wonder a bit more about the other pic. Whether or not it will make an ad agency wonder ...
It may seem picky, rententive and BS ... but I expect agencies can pass you by for less.

I hear ya, no problem, thanks man. I'm not crazy about that bio photo anyway and think I'll do a different one. I don't like the wardrobe and think the next one I do will be a simple black and white.
Your right about the Yeshe pic - that did have some artistic coloring. I went off normal color balance (well actually color balance was correct), but I enhanced cooler tones, and just messed with the curves. I still like the image overall but I'll consider it, thanks for the input.

Thanks, I'll consider it. It makes sense.
Any image you see there you think would make a good home page image?
I'm partial to a B/W photo due to the color scheme matching my simple color website design and logo (greys).

I like your work a lot, it's simple and clean. I know absolutely nothing about the fashion industry or NY, but just from taking a look at your portfolio the biggest thing I see is repeat models - when your portfolio is only 24 (or so) images long, you shouldn't repeat people that much. Looking at that as an art director and seeing repeat models in a small portfolio makes me think that you haven't done much work - so even if the work is quality, it makes you seem more inexperienced. Hope that helps.
