Very interesting interpretations of a fun place to hang out and feed seagulls bits of Siegal's (for those not familiar with Granville, these guys make the best bagels west of Montreal).
I've haven't been able to get HDR and tonemapping to look as graphic as this.
Do you mind sharing your processing?
Are you using Photomatix or Topaz?
Cheers
Chris
Chris, I use Photomatix, but with these particular ones, after the HDR work is done, I take it into Pixelbender and use the OilPainting filter.
I don't always like the result with Pixelbender, but i did on these!
Thanks for looking!
Well I was doing some experimenting and although I lose track of time when i am "playing", I don't think I spent any more than about 15 minutes on any of them..... I was trying lots of different effects and these are just the ones I felt were keepers!
Thanks again for looking!
The second one is working, but the others are just too busy compositionally. I am being assailed by a thousand elements, none of which allow me to rest my eye in a particular place, or give me an overall "read" on the image. They also lack depth and dimensionality. I think you need to revisit the images by thinking about where you want the viewer's attention to go, and working with your light-dark values and contrast to accentuate those parts, and push other elements into the background.
I just fixed the links... not sure what happened, but the links were all broken. The photos were still on Flickr, but the links didn't work.
Another mystery, i suppose!
