heelsfn ...
Um, sorry, but as someone new to the forum ... Fred aspires for members to conduct themselves to a higher standard than other forums. Like any family of members, none of us are perfect and we all can use a reminder here & there.
I specifically refrained from targeting names (which I could have done), not out of cowardice or lack of conviction ... rather out of display of conduct with respect & dignity for fellow members. Those who have been around for a while and have followed along already know "who's who" without resorting to such challenges. I, am known for longwinded "gobbledygook" posts that are rarely succint. Most people already know that and can figue it out for themselvs without name calling. Likewise, if I don't want to incur name calling as it represents poor conduct, I choose to refrain from name calling and direct challenging another members character ... imo, an issue can be addressed with conviction without poor conduct (or at least aspired to be so).
If a member is truly out of line with Fred's standards of conduct, Fred has provided a "REPORT" button. Now, most of us do not go running to Fred every time we get our toes stepped on and we do try to resolve things amongst ourselves as Fred would have it be.
I may not agree with another MEMBER and I may ask another MEMBER to conduct themselves more to the standard that Fred aspires by way of either a direct nudge or an indirect philosophical, longwinded post ... but challenging another member to "SHUT UP and GET OUT" is NOT in keeping with the spirit of FM as Fred would aspire for our conduct.
While much has been (and will be) written about "Buff, whoever that is" ... you have clearly put yourself in a position to be perceived as someone willing to make unsubstantiated assumptions ... not off to a good start in building credibility. Like any family, we may bicker a bit and disagree a lot, but please do not misunderstand the significance Fred places on conduct. As a new member, who may have thought of FM as simply another internet forum, just like the rest ... in some ways it is, while in other ways it really isn't.
I signed earlier as an FM Fan Boy (while some think I'm just a Buff Fan Boy) ... and as such want to extend a "WELCOME TO FM. FM ROCKS !!!" to you personally. However, I have to suggest that while your zeal & enthusiasm to your convictions is laudable, your tone very rapidly turned to the side of the very inappropriate treatment of fellow members to which I referred earlier as being non-contributory.
For those who prefer succint ... "Dude, you haven't been here long enough to try and trash talk anyone ... especially if you don't even know who Buff is."
NOTE: Not personal, just for the benefit of those who want me to be succint.
On the Buff issue, I see it the same as some members and differently than do other members and have expressed that with my conviction. My attempt to present things as I see them makes my opinion no greater, nor any less than those who see it differently. They are just as equal a member as you or I, and are just as entitled to present as such.
My main point is about how we go about treating each other as fellow members ... and I'm pretty sure that most members that have been here for any length of time find first time posting like yours to be a RED FLAG. There are several members that I disagreed with regarding Buff and other issues and have ardently tried to substantiate my points ... sometimes to only have them fall on deaf ears, been proven wrong or just not been good at getting my point across. You've set a tone for your start ... to get the most out of all that FM has to offer, you might want to reconsider your perspective of coming out with you 'teeth bared'. IMO, the whole "Well, he bared his teeth first." argument is worthless. Aspire for more, Fred does, and so do many of the members.
Just to be clear ... I'm not suggesting censorship, nor a need to refrain from your convictions ... just suggesting that you think of us as fellow members, the same as I suggest to others to do the same.
WELCOME TO FM. FM ROCKS !!!
(gentle nudge)
