A month ago, I was asked to take pictures of all the students at my school (80-ish people) for a slideshow to the last day of school. So I picked out some of the photos and would like som feedback on them, and please, say exactly what you mean. It's from your comments and critics that I will learn!
Landscape orientation for all? You do know you can turn your cam, right?
Looks like you were a bit close with a wider angled lens for some of them (1, 2 7, 10). Unless it was for a special purpose, I'd stick to longer lenses for less distortion.
we live in a pretty horizontal world and images are viewed that way often, so that is not a concern for me but I agree with the other crits from Jim for sure.
I really like number 1. It is my favorite of the set. I like the expression, I like the closeness with a wide lens, camera position, it strikes me as a really fun picture. I like 7 mainly because of the fact I can almost hear her laughing...
One thing I noticed in #9 is the "derp-derp" written on the wall. If this was on purpose I'd make it more prominent, otherwise I would search for some cleaner wall-space.
Thank you all for your comments and thoughts, they are appreciated!
Yeah, I tend to forget that I can rotate the camera. Thats a bad habit I got from working in a web publication where 99% of the photos are in landscape orientation.
The gear used is a Canon 1D MK III and a 35mm f/1.4, so thats why some photos have that look. I kinda like it.
Some more information, I had 1 day to shoot 84 people and not much time to plan, so I had to just grab the people and take the shot. And that explains some of the background. Hurry, and wasn't observant enough.
And again, thank you so much for your input. This is the only way I will learn!
