Give me your address and I'll send you some aluminum foil to cover that burner. I still have some left after my Sig 85 test....it'll give us a look at how the lens handles the spectral highlights.
Thanks for doing the tests. It appears the Rokinon prime can resolve slightly finer details in the corner crop if you look at the tree pines. However, still an awesome showing for the Zoom Zeiss all things considered.
Both the zoom (at 35mm) and the Rokinon prime show significant barrel distortion,
which I suspect is the price of achieving such good corner performance.
While they would not be the best architecture lenses, this kind of distortion is not difficult
to fix in post. I like both of the these lenses quite a lot.
I haven't noticed, to be honest. I tend to play with color in post for pretty much every photo, so native color rendering isn't too big of a deal for me.
I think I find slightly more saturated (not warmer) colors than Canon. But I am not talking about 35L, rather 50/1.4 and 85/1.8. Colorwise e.g. the 17-40L is on par - as colorful.
Disclaimer, I almost always do vibrance in ACR - but never saturate.
Just got my copy (Bower) this afternoon. The price seems very fair -- $390, including shipping.
The following photos are from today, along with my first impressions. Shot on Canon 1Ds2, ISO 100.
Here are a couple showing the surprising flare and ghosting resistence, at least for this limited trial. I used the ZE 35/2 profile in LR3 for a few of these, but mostly only sharpening and exposure settings were used. I don't believe there was any color correcting done on any images, so that should help address the discussion about the lens' color balance.
Here is the same one, with the ZE 35/2 profile in LR3, plus 152 in Distortion correction, plus Sharpening 60 (plus Exposure +.14, Recovery 5, Fill Light 5, Clarity 20). Note the difference in the ceiling line. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c80/gunzorro/036N1947-2.jpg
I am very impressed with the contrast, sharpness, and color of this lens. Even wide open, it captures very fine detail. The lens has very slight curvature of field, with the horseshoe prongs coming toward the camera on the sides -- very mild. Light fall-off is not offensive, even wide open.
It would be very interesting to see a head-to-head against the Zeiss ZE 35/1.4, and other brands. I'll be doing some comparing against my ZE 35/2 to see how they look.
I believe (or suspect ) that it was open-box new-stock. It is immaculate. I can't guarantee there are more at the exact same price, but the seller is legit and reliable, and sells at discount. It worked for me!
Hi Gunzorro...thanks for the pics. I've been on the verge of buying for a few weeks. I think I can be swayed if I could pick one up at that price....does this 'Vic' have an online store? Ebay? Or did yours fall off the back of a shipping truck? Either way, I'm going to have to get in touch with Vic.
