I would love to see an einstein shot into a plm86" silver with the diffusion fabric cover on. Essentially, i would like to see the light pattern that results from the combination compared to my elinchrom strobe. The einstein should have a better diffusion pattern due to the frosted pyrex dome that goes in front of the flash tube

here is what an elinchrom strobe mounted with a 86" plm looks like.

If you look at Elinchroms you can see they have a subreflector. I think thats why you got a hotspot in the middle or are you using the standard reflector?

You know...

We could sacrifice a deflector and drill a hole in it for the PLM shaft....

What i see though, isn't necessarely a center hotspot, but more a Ring...

The subreflector shouldn't be causing that, that ring is a good, iunno 2 stops over everything else.

And yet, when you take the cover off... its the oposite, theres seems to be a Shadow ring a good 2 stops under.
