I have a question. I noticed some of the images in zeiss image thread has this distinct low contrast in OOF areas ( vs the subject) was this done in PP? Or was it done by the lens itself?
Or maybe i'm just imagining things or seeing things that is not there? It's very subtle , I dont see it all the time.
I am curious which lens has this effects on the ze or zf series.

Thank you.
it'd be helpful if you gave a few examples of which images you see it in.
that is with the contax 35/1.4 (not the ZE version), I'm pretty sure the reason for marked lack of contrast in the bokeh is due to it being misty in that shot, but you'd have to ask Mortyb for sure.

I think you mean the characteristic on how Zeiss handles its bokeh on a busier background? It gets more noticeable on large aperture lens on FF given the circle of confusion.
Here's what I can think of an example. Planar 55mm F1.2 on A7II DSC02837 by JayPhoto, on Flickr
I see it on your red truck.. the shadows are black but the shadows on the building's windows are not... most modern lenses can't distinguish this they are rather close to black or same black..eventhough the otherone is sharp the other OOF.

here's a good example.... not sure this is PP.. but your Kid's hair is black and the light poles are black too... now I see some zeiss they are not like this the pole is supposed to be faded black, grey, etc... but not BLACK.
Chrome crushes blacks for me, so I took a look in Explorer and I'm not seeing that bar as black - you can see the threadings on it. Bringing it in to LR confirms what I see and indicates the opposite of what you claim - the car shadows are actually clipped but the bar is not.
In any event, I can't say that I've ever noticed this phenomena that you're seeing.
