The front lens cap of ZE/ZF lenses is a disgrace to otherwise fine lenses. Total crap. I am truly disappointed that Zeiss continues to ignore this long-standing customer complaint.

I agree, what a let down this cap is. First order of business will be finding a Nikon replacement cap.

Thanks Samuli for your comments. I see what you all mean about the lousy lens cap. My God, for what we have to pay for these lenses and this is the best they can come up with? I'll be searching eBay this weekend for a Nikon cap or maybe just swing by the camera store and see if they have any on hand. Great tip by the way, thanks!

Congratulations on the 135! Can't wait to see your first posts with it.

I agree 100% about the lens cap. Replace it with either a Nikon, Canon or even a generic from Amazon. You can get a well-made generic (pinch cap) for fairly cheap but since you splurged on the 135 I'm guessing a couple dollars more for the branded won't break the bank.

As for a case / pouch I just keep mine in padded Think Tank cases or Kata backpack. I have them in their on compartment and they are fine.

I am not No Regrets, but I just had my first walk with this lens. A few observations:

- Optically top-notch. I immediately got moiré on the 6D.
- Lens cap is impossible to attach with the hood mounted (and slightly cold hands).
- The front element is too small to support a 2/135 lens.

(No, that is not vignetting.)

Thanks for the comment arduluth. Hey, I see that we are practically neighbors with me being in Wi. How's the winter weather been treating you? I'm looking forward to spring...can't come soon enough!

The winter's not been bad, so much nicer than last year! We have almost no snow, which is a bummer. Enough for hiking, but not much else. No one is complaining after last winter, though. :P

Thanks Jim,

I was able to swing by the local Nikon dealer today with hopes of buying a new lens cap for the Z135, but he didn't have any on hand that would fit. He did however have ProMaster pinch cap that was much better than the one that Zeiss provided, so I bought that one so that I could have better protection right away. $10 well spent.

I won't be able to get out shooting until next weekend...hopefully will have something worth while posting then.

Best wishes,
Don

Tooth - So are you disappointed? I'm just a little confused with your post. The photo you posted was very nice. Hope I just mis-read your reply.

I found another from that series, again 100-300 CY. This is what is very likely to be the highest lake of any real size in the world. It's Tagyel Tso, the latest reference puts it at 5150m. Everything listed as higher 'lakes' are in fact glacial moraine pools or tiny temporary tarns in high mountain zones.

This lake is at least 15-20kms long and 7-8kms across. It's waters shine a high tone satin blue, very highly reflective of the massive radiation there. A nomad tent is on the foreground slope, and several more are on the other side of the lake - this is a narrow sliver of it extending from the northern end. The black dots on the other side are huge yaks. I used an a900, which was no match for these conditions, this is a7r country, or better still a9.

I am happy with the lens, but I don't shout it from the roofs.

I am unhappy with the cap, and that can't be stated often enough

Philip - cracking stuff. These are landscapes to my liking.

Unless you desaturated these images, it appears that the colors of the high Himalayas are much more subdued than the colors of the high Andes.

Delicious chocolate “pudding” and Lapacho Chai..

..pudding isnt actually a pudding, but blend of avocado, banana, 100% cocoa powder and various other things..

..Lapacho Chai is just blend of Chai herbs (known otherwise as Yogi/Masala) and Lapacho. Both healthy and warming.

Fuji S5 Pro + C/Y 50/1.4 @ f8

I feel bit lonely in this thread, considering how many Zeiss owners is on FM.

I find it sad that this thread, ZF/ZE/ZM and Leica threads are almost dead.

I don't remember Contax Distagon T* 2.8/28 C/Y having gigantic field curvature on Canon 5DmkII on mid-distance shooting. But it's pretty strong with A7(r). It can also be used as a benefit; on this subtle colored (sun is gone behind the forest already some time ago) photo I used it to bring front of the photo to focus, while the main target was a little futher away - f/5.6

On this kind of photos field curvature sucks - even f/8 wasn't enough to make the tip of the "splinter"/"twik"/whatever-it's-called-in-English on top right corner to be 100% focused, so had to use f/11:

3rd one just for the fun of it - f/11:

28mm C/Y is my first Zeiss lens and it's still one of my favorite lenses!

Samuli

There are still a few devotees left.

That said, I have recently started to drop Y/C images in the ZE/ZF/ZM thread, as this Zeiss thread is really almost dead. Nobody can tell the difference, anyway.

In the long term we just have to accept that the big masses have moved to other threads and fora.

I mostly post in the A7R thread, but could cross-post I suppose. I do like to watch other people post here though.

I guess it would be easiest just to merge all Zeiss lens related under one thread to keep it alive.
