Hugo's website sure as heck made the point that you don't need fancy flash and music to do good business.
The guy's portfolio doesn't even have a slideshow.
I don't khow about you guys, but for me he seems like those established over years photographers- lots and lots of people helping him, and he just pushes the button...
But he is probably the good one for the job- I expect the pictures will be rather dull and boring- just like their engagement photos, and like the ones of royal family on his www.
I feel kinda sorry for young prince and his fiance- not to be able to pick your own wedding photographer? That sucks.
But that's just me, and I'm not really familiar with all that royal stuff
And beer for everyone if I'm mistaken and their pics will be super cool. I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong.

I know... don't you hate those successful photographers who aren't starving artists and who actually make money in the same league as esteemed professionals? HACKS the lot of them!

I have to agree with you there. Really does suck to be them... the deprivation is almost unbearable. In their place I'd just give up royalty altogether!

If you were, maybe you'd have a different value system when it comes to wedding photography.

I presume this is fake imaginary anyone can say it "beer" ... we're not going to actually get cans or bottles of the stuff, right?

You don't need that to attract celebs and royal dignataries. In fact, I bet none of them would ever visit your website. It's all about who you know and being in the right circles.
If you want to attract customers of that calibre, then you don't need it. If you want to attract brides with $5k budgets, a website will likely be necessary to some degree.

They don't get to pick their clothes, where they go (for the most part), who they can really talk to, what they say in public, and their schedule is made for them. A lot of restrictions & responsibilities. Jussayin'
Not really.
I wonder what would you say about his work if he was someone you don't know, and didn't recognize anyone on his pictures? And what would you say about his website?
By who's standarts are you judging cool or not when you look at FM posts and write feedback? Your own standarts, right? One will like it, other won't. I feel like I must accept that he is the best 'couse he is THE ROYAL FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER.
Being in the right circles doesn't make you best photographer in the world. It does make you lot's of $$$ without even bothering about your website. And the website should be high end, because he has high end clients. He doesn't have to attract new, but he should care about old ones.
Cans or bottes- the choice is yours, but first you would have to escape all the polar bears on your way here. We even have pubs here, but open only during summer time ( that would be 2 weeks).
Wojtek.
And please don't get my posts so serious and personal.
From my point of view,
Most photographers are going to take a charge of minimum of $400 to $500 for a full day of shooting, but If you talk about an experience photographer they will charge $2000 to $5000 for an extensive amount of pictures and as many as 2 or 3 assistants.
